Contact Lenses

Been meaning to post this for ages now. Basically, im long sighted and should wear my glasses for reading, using computers and other things like that but i dont (only ever wear them at home :/ ).

So what i want to know is, will contact lenses be stuitable for me? Considering i only have to wear them for close up things... I would just like some that you put in in the morning and then leave them in all day and take them out in the evening.

Depends on your eyes and the prescription you've got for your glasses, go see your optician, they're the only people who'll be able to tell you if there's a set of contact lenses for you.
People who wear contact lenses tend to put them in in the morning and wear them for the whole day continuously.

If your eyesight is only poor when it comes to seeing close up, then it may be slightly pointless.

However, if when you wear glasses for reading etc BUT you can still see distances fine, then it should be okay to wear the lenses all the time.

Presumably if you only wear glasses at home you are conscious of how you look, so it should be a boost to your confidence to wear contacts.

Hope this helps.

I think my distances are fine with my current glasses on, things at distance dont become blurred or anything like that with them on.

At work i spend most of my time in front of a computer and recently my eyes have started to become strained (is that the word?) after a while so i cant be doing my eyes any good, hence why i would like to get contacts

If i goto my opticians to discuss contacts will i have to pay for it? (im not in education). If so, how much is that likely to cost? And how much do the actual contacts cost?
I never liked using a computer wearing contact lenses, but then I am the opposite of you (short sighted.)

Many places will give you a short free trial, but you may need a seperate eye test as well. At worst you'll be looking at around £20 for that. Then the contacts themselves can range from £60 for a year (i think!) for hard, to up to around £30 a month for certain soft ones. Mine should have been £25 a month roughly, but ive got a discount!!!

jennyflake, monthlies are £6 a month from Boots, plus solutions, so I pay £11 a month

So monthlies are the cheapest, how much are daily ones?

Yeah, it just depends on what prescription you have. If youre nice and basic will be able to get cheap contacts. I only know of one brand that makes contacts for me, I wasnt given any options, so I unfortunately have to have expensive lenses.
The cheapest are hard lenses, but a) if you lose them thats a lot of money gone. b) they are awful to wear at first, and your eyes do have to harden up.
Dailies, well the basic focus dailies are £18.30 from Tesco, which I'm guessing is pretty average.

You could try some varifocal lenses (I know it sounds strange, but they are available). However, they would be expensive.
I go to Specsavers and pay £10 per month for my monthly single-vision soft lenses (including cleaning solutions).
You can always go there and ask for a free contact lens consultation, and then you would be able to get the right advice from a professional.
