Hello everybody. As you know, the other thread was somewhat.. controversial... so I've decided to create a new, hopefully less controversial, version.

Basically the new idea from TSR MAD is to raise awareness for alcoholism, and the effects alcohol consumption can have on people's lives if they drink it in excess.

An abstinence thread is still a possibility, as long as people realise that this is just something to do, if not for fun, to maybe think about the way alcohol changes your life (be it positive or negative); not a thread for alcoholics to give up - as this is dangerous and could cause death.

If you think you have a problem, please get help. Note that I am in no way qualified to give you advice on this matter, other than to tell you to seek someone who is actually qualified.

Our main focus is that people use their local Cash For Cans ( info here: http://thinkcans.net/cash-cans/about...s#.Uu6Thre-f8M ) and donate the money to your favoured alcoholism charity, for example Alcohol Concern/Addaction.

Alcoholism is a very serious condition that not only affects the addict's life but their friends and family. We are not at all demonising moderate drinkers, we just want to raise awareness for the people whose lives have been ruined by alcohol.

I'll repeat, if you think you have a problem, get help. From your GP or from a website. Here are some sites I can think of off the top of my head:
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/alco...prevention.htm
http://www.ncadd.org/
http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk/

I understand the point you are making.

However,

1) People are aware that alcohol can cause harm. People aren't stupid.

2) No matter how good your intentions, you aren't going to make a difference making a thread about the matter.

I don't see the point in any of this.

The main thing is the cash for cans. People donate the money to an alcoholism charity.

It's more to get people to donate the money to an alcoholism charity, and recycling is hardly a bad thing.

Give your alcohol cans to Cash For Cans and donate money to an alcoholism charity.

I think it's done much better this time The last thread seemed like it were trying to convey that all drinking is problem drinking and has a great potential to lead to alcoholism. The bullet points in the last one seemed to be related more to the problems of prolonged excess drinking, while the thread seemed to be geared towards getting a moderate drinker to join the cause. Maybe for this one you can cite financial reasons or something to a similar effect (maybe the warning signs of problem drinking) as to why someone might want to try this out for a bit.
