I'm confused to which one is more suited to me. I like to make websites, I hate creating logos but I like to make a website look nice and I like it to be dynamic and use JavaScript but I hate PHP and the server end of a website, I hate programming in PHP or a different server side language. So am I best suited as a web designer or a web developer

Designer, you want to make the front-end from what you have said, not the back . I prefer PHP personally!

Front End Developer - HTML/CSS/JS - They code the front end of the website - what the end user sees and uses

Back End Developer - PHP/MySQL/etc - They code the back end of the website - the database and interactions with front end elements so buttons/forms etc.

Designer - usually designs the interface and how stuff is laid out - produces several wireframes that are passed on to the front end developer or worked in cooperation with the front end developer - this depends on the process or methodology used at the workplace.

A freelance developer will need to know it all.

A developer develops the website (develops it to make it work)

A designer designs the website (to make it look pretty)

A designer creates the layout etc, a developer makes it so.
