Pharmaceutical calculations

Hi guys this question is based on serial dilutions and how to work out concentrations for beer lamberts law.
Basically the stock solution of salicylic acid was provided and a dilution scheme was followed to prepare a series of salicylic acid standards. Water was used as the dilutent. For example:
Salicylic acid standard (mg/ml)
Serial dilution scheme
2mg/ml 3ml of 2mgml-1 diluted to a volume of 4ml using water.
1.5mg/ml 5ml of 2.0mgml- diluted to a total volume of 10mL using water.

The question is, how would i work out the concentration of the standards after dilution?
Would i have to use the formula c1v1=c2v2 or just convert the mg/ml into g/l then go ahead and find the concentration. Oh btw the MW of salicylic acid is also provided.
