becoming a fully qualified doctor

Hi all ..
Ok so currently I have no qualifications except basic gcse. This was due to unforeseen circumstances .I want to become a doctor and specialise in either neurology or surgery .. have to decide when have experience . I have found a course for access to medicine. I'm hoping this will be enough to get me into a medicine mbbs which I understand is 5 years . So my first question is do the nhs fund study as I'm aware degrees for nursing are free. Also after you have completed the 5 years is the rest of the career building done within the working role. Thanks all any advice is really appreciated

Years after the first four are funded to some extent (fees and a spectacularly small maintenance bursary if your parents live in a box).

In planning living cost wise its effectively completely unfunded, if you get extra loan etc in the first few years due to your background you will need to save it for the last few years when costs go up and loans go down.

I don't live with my parents ... I'm just trying to get as much research done as possible ... It's all so confusing lol

If you have GCSE's now, you next logical step would probably to get a few A-levels, ideally in biology and chemistry and then 1 or 2 more of your choice, and then you should be able to go through the normal UCAS process for med-school applications.

Try and get some work experience in a hospital/GP practice and a long term volunteering position at a care home or something similar if you can, as this will really boost your application.
