Can I decline my Firm Choice and accept my Insurance Choice?

I have not met the conditional offer from my Firm Choice (from UEA), but I have received an unconditional offer from my Insurance Choice. Nonetheless, UEA said that I can/would have to wait until 17 August (when the A-level results get publilshed) until they can see whether there's a place for me. The thing is I simply cannot wait for so long, as I have to apply for financial aid in Sweden only if I hold an unconditional place.

So, I think I want to decline my Firm Choice (University of East Anglia) and accept my Firm Choice (University of Hertfordshire). Do you know if this is possible to do? If so, can I do that on the UCAS Track web-site?

Thank you, ANY suggestions/opinions are welcome!

Ge, that's not so reassuring! I don't even get why I still have my conditional offer in UEA, since I DID NOT met the requirements for the conditional offer. I have figure thinks out now...

Since I need a written certified proof of an unconditional offer at UH, I have another question: will I receive some kind of confirmation from UCAS that I have been unconditionally accepted at UH?

I'm sorry if this sounds silly or too pedantic, but I really need to know. Thanks =)

You will only receive written confirmation from UCAS when your current firm has decided to accept/reject you (or you've sorted it). Then, the letter should be sent within a few days and then it will take a while to get to your house.

You have it because they haven't decided on whether to accept you or otherwise. Once they do, there's no turning back.

Not until your Firm makes a decision, AFAIK.

Call UEA and ask them to either accept/reject you now - explain your situation.

That's a great idea PQ, thanks! But do you know the telephone number to UCAS?

I live in Norway and I've just tried to call (it's Saturday): +4408701122211 / 004408701122211 but it said that that number is not in use...

Oh, UCAS phone services work on Mon-Fri, from 8:30 am. I'll give them a call on Monday then. Thanks, again everyone!

In your case (where results are in and a university is taking it's time over accepting/rejecting you) then you can force the situation. Contact UCAS and tell them that you've got your results and UEA will not make a decision and you NEED to know now for funding purposes.

UCAS will contact UEA with a 24 hour deadline for them to make a decision either way and if UEA still don't make a decision then UCAS will reject you on UEAs behalf and you'll be transferred automatically to your insurance choice.

Well, this was almost too good to be true. I phoned UCAS and it appears that UCAS don't do such a thing (the guy I spoke checked with his supervisor). Maybe it's just me, though.

Haven't you tried contacting UEA and asking them to reject your app?

I've just been on the phone with UEA admissions office, and they said that they normally wouldn't make a final decision (reject/accept me) before the A-level results have been published. I emphasized that I wouldn't probably have any money in case I would have to wait until they made their final decision. They seemed rather busy, and said that they would consider it and send me and e-mail before the end of this week.

Meh, the deadline for the application for financial aid is 1st August and I need to have an unconditional place at a Uni in order to apply. I have contacted the financial office in Sweden to (once again!) postpone the deadline, awaiting the decision.

Since, I think that I would need to confirm my request about rejecting me from UEA in written form, I'm going to send them a letter with my signature.

There, got things kinda structured. =)

PQ, I don't think that that applies to me. It seems, the word "delay" is put as an alternative. I already know why UEA won't make up their mind now (they wait for the A-level results, to see if there's a vacancy for me).

It's tempting to send an email to the UEA UCAS correspondent, though. But, I cannot find the email address at the moment. I suppose I just have to wait for UEA's email; not much point in complaining.
