Try not to eat just before you go to bed.

Indulge in some light reading.

de-stress...

but yeah, they work a bit I guess.
I use them when I need to sleep. There was a prof at my university who basically founded sleep science, and he said they're not habit forming. Basically, it's better to sleep with pills than not to get enough sleep.

Yeah slleping pills work but don't take them too late at night or you get a funny sleepy hangover the next day and you will feel really crap. If you can't sleep though it may be worth going to your doctor and seeing if it is a symptom of anything else.

i take calms before i go to bed, their not sleeping tablets but they relax you so your less likely to indulge in a night of deep thinking which stops you from falling off.
i used to take them before my exams, they really did work!!!

Homeopathy doesn't work as the pills are just placebos. If they help you calm down and get a good nights sleep then maybe waving a magic wand and saying abracadabra will help as well.
Yes. Best way to do is to make your own clinical trial and try 1)sleeping pills 2)unrelated pills (vit tablets). Generally speaking homepathic medicines are just placebo.
Didn't work for me, but that's because I think too much when I'm trying to sleep. I took them and was up for 2 hours thinking "I took those tablets ages ago, why aren't I asleep? Should I take more? Would going downstairs wake me up more?" etc. VERY irritating. I also can't get to sleep when I go to bed thinking that I should because I'm tired, or when I think that I need a good nights sleep for the next day. It's not nerves, but I just think too much.
meditation!
homeopathic remedies dont work but you might want to try real sleeping pills. just remember nt to take them too often because you wont be able to sleep without them anymore and it will just make the problem worse
Aviod them at all cost. Simple things like not eating, not watching TV and no caffene based drinks before going to bed will set you in good stead. Try reading a book (not horror that might just make it worse) before hitting the hay. Focuses the mind and relaxes the body. I had touble getting to sleep just before my exams. Was really nervous. I had a hot drink and read a book and i went down like a log.

my mum uses nytol. She is an absolutely crap sleeper but they work for her most times. Even if it is just psychological, who cares?!

If not, try something for tension headaches. My boyfriends mum just takes half a syndol tablet and she is out for the night! She is really sensitive though, my mum needs at least a full one for it to work on her.

Proper prescribed sleeping tablets are good too but you need to be careful. I have to hang on to my mums for her and only give her them when i know she is desperate for sleep. Bad things to get hooked on!

What are you wanting to take them for? Have you got something specific like a holiday where you need to sleep or will you be taking them over a longer period of time?

Which echos my sentiments.
They don't work for me (referring to Nytol one a night) for some reason; it's much better to try and find your own natural rhythm! Easier said than done, however. Try a hot bath and a cup of chamomile tea.
