Cystitus.

Hey everyone.

For a couple of weeks now, when I pee, it stings down below. I've had this before and was told it was Cystitus (I think i've spelt it right). Anyway, I drank water and pee'd after sex and it soon cleared up.

Seeing as I have the same symptons again, i assume I have Cystitus again. It can't be an STI because me and my bf have only ever been with each other sexually.

However, this time, it hasn't gone away and I know there's something you can get from the chemist or something isn't there but what exactly is it? Tablets, liquid, cream?

Also, how common is it? I want to know if the pharmacists get asked for it alot. What do you think? Is it a common thing to get? Has anyone else had it or get it regularly?

Thanks.

It's very common but i'd say it would be better seeing your doctor

Try looking at the boots website up there, and that shows some treatments you can get which work quite well.. Try not to have sex until it goes away, you'll irritate it further. But if it persists and doesnt seem to go away after the home treatment, then go to see your doctor immediately.

That help?

To answer your other question, it is very common. Two of my friends have had it in the past week, and there isnt anything wrong with you at all  But perhaps, its come back because you didn't totally finish your course of medicine/cream last time. Just because the symptoms do not go away, DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE CYSTITIS has gone, the bacteria/fungi can still be present and therefore carry on with reproduction again, so make sure you use all the cream/tablets etc.

I get This quite often. Its been said you get it more frequently when you are more sexually active. Off the counter the best thing you can do to get rid of it is drinking lots of water and cranbury juice. However i do not think that you can get tablets for it without a prescription. Last time i had an infection i went to my doctor and got prescribed anti-biotics so that might be the best way to get around it.

I'd try something like the relief tablets for now if u think its cystitis thats come back.

It seems like you may be prone to it so why dont you take some of the preventative products?
Hi
I work in a pharmacy and it is very common to be asked for stuff, so fdont worry:smile:
Also it is a good idea to try and drink more as you will be more susceptible in hot weather.
Apparently drinking cranberry juice can ease the symptoms for some people and taking cranberry supplements.
Hope this helps
I went to the doctor and was given antibiotics, although you can buy these sachets you mix with water from places like boots. Cranberry juice apparently helps too!

Some of the soluble solutions you can get are sodium based, others are potassium based. Try them both, I found sodium didn't help, but potassium did.

However be careful using the cystitis sachets etc. as they do not always cure the cystitis, especially if youve had it a while...therefore i would suggest making an appointment at docs for mon, then seeing if it clears up in the mean time. If you start getting blood in the urine or backache, you need a doctor quicker.
Cranberry is supposed to do something to do with the bacteria and the walls of the bladder i think, but yes, is supposed to be very good.

^^ true words. There's also some liquid you mix into a drink tho.. think it's called cymalon. Tastes god awful but it did the trick.
I never found anything I bought from the pharmacist any good at all when I used to get cystitis. I hate cranberry juice and couldn't face the thought of drinking lots of it, but I found that drinking a lot of barley water helped, though you get so sick of the stuff you physically dread it after a while! You need to flush out the bacteria basically so drink LOTS. Apparently drinking water with bicarbonate of soda helps as well.
