Fed up of not being able to sleep

Am feeling very, very tired at the moment, and I just can't sleep. The heat is a big factor in it. But when I do sleep, it's just not a deep sleep at all, and most of the time very disturbed. I'm sleepwalking a lot at the moment, like getting clothes out of my closet, or just like sitting up on my bed for a while. But I'm like semi-conscious at the time, and it all just really drains me now. It was sorta funny at first to tell my friends and stuff like what I was doing, but now I'm just getting annoyed and upset by it because I am just so tired.

Can anyone recommend anything? I was thinking about going to get something from the chemist today like Nytol or something - can anyone recommend anything? Or anything else at all? Will try anything at the moment..

Thanks for all your help.

You could try reading? That helps me sleep. Totally know what you mean though about the heat, I'm having real trouble sleeping too. I have a sore throat too which really isn't helping.
I am finding it really hard to sleep at the moment too. I find though that sleeping in very loose clothing helps and only going to bed when I am really tired so that I fall asleep faster. I do find that I am waking really early in the morning though which is annoying- woke up at 5 am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep as it was so light!
Oh I love waking up early, it's not sleeping till early morning that gets to me! I just turn the light off and put some music on, and after a while I just fall asleep. Sometimes I am very aware that I'm actually falling asleep and I don't even turn the music off not (or the sleepiness would go away). x
some1 else who isn't sleeping! normally i sleep the entire night, never wke up. but im in a really light sleep atm, or dont sleep. in fact im going for a nap now!
its a little better now i sleep with the window and shutters open, but i means i wake up when the sun does. im think of gettin those eye mask things... any help?

Get a fan! I've found that I sleep a million times better with on in this heat, and I've got used to the noise to a point where it doesn't disturb me any longer (if anything I know sleep deeper than before).

Also, have youy got a dark blind or curtain? In my new house the curtain is useless and lots of light gets in. That bothered me at first, but now I'm used to it.

Waking up early is a sign of depression, as is not sleeping properly. If it continues, maybe speak to your doctor.
Sleeping difficulty (link) may help you somehow.

In terms of the heat, try getting a fan in your room, leaving windows and doors open for circulation, and putting a hot water bottle in the fridge, with cold water inside it, and sleeping with that by your feet.

Happy sleeping

my friend has trouble sleeping and she uses lavender oil because apparently it relaxes you or something!
Lavender oil is fantastic to put on your pillow before you go to bed. You can get vapour plug ins that work really well as well, or a "calming balm" from the Boots Botanics range thats pretty good.

Or get drunk, that always sends me to sleep!
I havent been able to sleep properly in this heat either.

Except yesterday! I slept outside, on my garden bench with a sleeping bag. It was amazing, really was. Not just the fact i managed to sleep but all the air and stars and strange noises and stuff. Id recommend it

Most important thing not to do if you cannot sleep is to just lie there. Strangely enough, the average time before you fall asleep is meant to be around 7-8 minutes so if its 30 mins before you settled down on that trip to the land of nod and you're still awake, get up and get out of bed.

I normally find hot milk works a treat or a bit of whiskey perhaps.

How active are your days?

Oh great. That explains a fair bit.

Re the heat problem: If you have a loft space that you can get to by a hatch, take the hatch away. You won't believe how much it's cooled our house down. (If you get to it by a door, open the door.)

I'm a part-time insomniac, but all year round. :coffee:
Here's what I've found over the past few years:
1. Lavender oil - I grow gradually sicker of the smell during the night.
2. GP - he told me "ooh, I don't want to give you anything. You won't be able to sleep without it soon enough. Have some, er, milk or something."
3. Music - I lie there listening to it.
5. Reading - I lie there thinking about what I've just read.
6. TV - I lie there thinking about what I've just watched.
7. Alcohol - I get a little hyped, and even if it helps it only puts you into a light, disturbed sleep.
8. Herbal remedies - You've got to be joking.
9. Hot milk - well, doesn't do any harm, but never truly helped.

There are two solutions - study a photograph of David Davis every night before retiring to bed, or get someone to routinely knock you out with a saucepan (or similar). Insomnia is pretty much incurable.

Good tips anyway:
1. Keep it cool; open windows and doors
2. Keep it as dark as possible.
3. No sound - turn everything off.
4. This one's important - turn all electrical stuff off. Not just because of the humming - there's good evidence it has a subconscious stimulating effect.
5. Don't worry. Don't even think.

Scrap that, woke up at quarter to 4 this morning and couldn't sleep. I talk about the music in the above post, but this morning I realised that it's not what I actually do. I went downstairs and put a Friends DVD on, and watchhed a couple of eps. Ok, I watched 3 (for an hour). Thiis is when despite laughing every minute and loving ever second (for the umpteenth time) my eyes began to close. So I went up and fell asleep  It works because I've already seen it and don't think about it like I would if I watched a film for the first time. But that will work for Friends fans only :p:
