Look at something you've previously had a passing interest in (like music, a type of sport, a creative pursuit etc.) and devote your time to it -- for example, if you once played a game of badminton and enjoyed it, develop into a regular activity. Or if you remember hearing a certain band's music and liking it, look into what other work they've done and buy more of their CDs. Having a passion makes you a more interesting person, and will also help you make more friends to pass the time with as you'll have something to talk about with them.
What do you mean by 'I know that isn't going to work'? If you're not sure where to start with voluntary work, just research all the available options and see what takes your fancy.Reply 2
