thank you
Hello is your exam board OCR?

If so, the biological approach of Sex and Gender is:

Freuds Theory:

- Happens between the ages of 3-6
- Happens in the unconscious mind
- Believes in the Electra and Oedipus complex

Electra (girls)
- aged 3-6
- The girl desires a penis, but realises she cannot has one, so she desires a baby instead.
- She bonds with mother, and gets more feminine traits.

Oedipus (males)

- aged 3-6
- The male fancies his mother, but scared that his father will find out and cut his penis off (castration anxiety for A*).
- He identifies with father, and gets more masculine traits.

Key Concepts you must know:

Male Chromosome- XY
Female Chromosome- XX
Male Hormone- Testosterone
Female Hormone- Oestrogen

The Core Theory;

When you are born, they believe:

- if you are born male, you will be masculine
- If you are born female you will be feminine

Criticisms:

- This theory ignores that behaviours are learned
- If men are biologically similar, why are men so different. For Example- one being very masculine, but one being very feminine

FOR YOUR A/A*

You must state that this theory is supported by Diamond and Sigmundonds, which suggests that you can change a gender.

I hope I have made this clearer for you
