Hydrolysis of Aspirin Investigation

I am currently trying to do a write up for my chemistry investigation on the hydrolysis of aspirin and I need to show the mechanism for the hydrolysis of aspirin in both acidic and alkaline conditions, I've looked at a few websites but I really don't understand it, could anyone try and explain it to me please!? (I also need to know what the intermediate compound is which I don't understand)
Any help would be much appreciated, thankyou!

Well, which functional group is present in Aspirin that CAN be hydrolysed? And how do you think that may react with, say, a hydroxide or water molecule?
