This compound has the structural formula C6H6C(OH)(CN)CH3

Is it called 2-hydroxy-2-phenylpropan-1-nitrile ?

Nearly, you don't need to identify the position of the CN group (it couldn't be anywhere but at the 1 position if the other 2 groups are at position 2)

I see. Thanks So removing the 1 is a better name, but there is still nothing wrong with adding the 1 as I'm merely pointing out the position of the nitrite group?

Put it as c1ccccc1C(O)(C#N)C - this way you don't have to count these pesky hydrogens

I have never seen a structural formula written like so, what is the naming of this system so I can research it?
