Anteriorly: 2-10; you can test this on yourself. Put your fingers in the sternal notch, laterally and up to that is the second rib. First structure you'll feel. Go down this line diagonally. Last one you can feel is 10. I'm not convinced rib 1 is palpable. Certainly can't get it on myself!
Posteriorly: bit harder with the scapulae in the way. The inferior end of the scapula identifies rib 7 and you should be able to count down to 12. I'm not sure how many you can count back up the way, though!
