Eating Disorders/Depression and Uni..

Hey, I decided to post as anonymous for this reason

Basically, I have pretty bad bulimia, It was the reason I had to leave uni last year, I just couldn't cope.. Anyway, I've had anorexia, bulimia and depression since I was ten, so i'm kinda used to it, but I desperately don't want it to ruin my university decision etc.. I was just wondering if anyone has a similar problem at uni and have any advice as to how to cope? Without the suggestion of seeing a uni councellor lol believe me, I've tried..

so anything else i'd greatly appreciate..

Thanks x
please try this if you can...there are more resources, you can PM me

:hugs: making the transition stage from college to uni isint easy,I had loads of problems - ranging from fitting it to as you mentioned depression/eating problems etc.Support services at uni dint help much either :frown:
Time really is the best thing, you make freinds - the genuine sort, people you can talk to,lean on and who know what you are going through.Joining support groups outside uni also helps because you get to meet people who are going through a similar patch as you.The best thing really is to take each day as it comes, having faith in yourself and knowing it can get better. Also taking up hobbies, having an active social life etc are the best ways you can deal with your deamons.Ud be suprised how many people have similar problems.
Thanks for the replies.. I guess I'm just in a worried state at the moment, things will get better I hope, it's just it was the reasonI had to leave last time, and my parents are very worried too.. But thanks and i'm trying hard to sort it out x
well, forgot to remain anonymous that time lol..
umm, hey ho.don't hold it against me

Sorry to sound preachy, but having a severe condition such as bulimea and depression and trying to acheive the best you can in your life/career is difficult, they just dont gel. I have depression and i've had eating disorders over the past year and the best way you can get out of it is a medical professional. Counselling isn't as good as medical help. I'm sorry to hear that you dropped out of uni. It really pains me to hear other people are suffering in their salad days of youth.

You will need some support while you're there. Even though you say the counselling services didn't help last time, do go again as they will vary at different unis. And go pretty much straight away, rather than waiting to see if it gets bad.

Also, see if your GP can refer you to someone at uni. Even if they just give you a phone number or something, it will help to know there's somewhere to help if necessary.
