my bf just said i look like...
a girly wayne rooney!!! it was a joke, and he was mega apologetic after i told him i was "deeply hurt" (i wasn't, but thought id make him sweat), but then he said he said it coz i dont wear dresses and stuff. he knows im not into that kinda thing (well, not in public) and isn't really phased by it. but it got me thinking...do guys generally prefer girls to wear "girly" things? does it make them feel more manly when with them?... hmm intriguing...any thoughts?

Yeah, I much prefer my girlfriend to wear girly clothes, it just looks much better 
You don't have to dress up really girly girly but as long as you don't look like a tomboy that's the main thing I think

I just think that when a guy is going out with a girl he wants them to be girly. My boyfriend prefers me in dresses as he says i look better in them, whether he wants me to look more like a girl i dont know but id be offended if he said that lol. (So dont, Ollie) lol.
But i guess girls wear skirts n dresses n lads wear jeans and trousers n shorts - typically anyway.. And for that reason to wear a dress or a skirt makes you look more feminine.

look you sarcastic annoying person, i didnt say "do guys prefer their gfs to look like men?" i said do they prefer them to wear girly things, like dresses. not wearing dresses does not equate to having facial hair, sorry to shatter your illusion.

I'm afraid attraction is entirely subjective, especially when it comes to clothes. Every man is different in what he prefers. For instance I tend to go for the more tomboyish look we'll say, short hair, not so much jewlery or pink. That and it actually doesn't matter so much to men. Women will tend to notice what men are wearing a lot more than a man would notice on a woman. A general rule is if it shows a bit of skin, or accentuates certain attributes it looks good to us.
I suppose a man does like to show off his girlfriend. Like say if he's bringing you out with his mates, if you're dolled up it reflects well on him though he may not care either way at any other time. I dunno, maybe try it and see how it reacts, if ya want like. It won't make him feel more manly but if his mates are impressed his status among them is raised and that's not bad thing for his confidence.

if you've got it flaunt it. If you look good in girly clothes (n feel comfortable in them too) then it makes soo much difference

This would be my advice too. Though they also seem to think it's cool when you wear their clothes from time to time (although if your boyfriend wears shiny tracksuit tops, please don't do it, it looks so trashy). Or at least mine does; I guess the fact that they're oversized & not made for your figure paradoxically accentuates what's underneath...or makes them feel bigger if their jumper swamps you.
If he doesn't like the way you dress he should never have gone out with him.

An ex-boyfriend told me I looked like a Moomin once. I didn't know what they were and didn't think much of it, but came across them on a website months later. We'd split up by then, but he was still subjected to some pretty abusive text messages

my bf likes it wen i look nice..hes always telling me im perfect but hed never make fun of what i wear. my style changes every day..some days im girlysome days i wear dungerees(sp?) or days i wear trendy shorts with cut ogg leggings things....but he loves mefor who i am...i always make an effort,,,but making an effort doenst always have to mean dressing girly...its feeling and looking good in what u wear....jeans n a pretty top is enuf...as long as u feel good n have the confidence in what ur wearing..thats just as attractive..i think confidence is very sexy!
