Does knowing a friend who will be in Rutland counts? Second year though.
Congratulations! Best hall of all  I might end up on some of the Rutland rag raids, so we might run into each other if you go on them.

Congratulations, you got the best hall. Get involved with Karni - the new Karni boys are a good group of lads.

Yeah, just finished my first year and moving into Lenton for the second. I'm on the Snowflake Ball Kommittee this year, and I expect to see Rutland winning Karni this year (from my unbiased POV)!

Is Snowflake going to be done by the same Company as the last few years?

I was very impressed with their set-up (if not the prices!)

It'll seem a bit strange (after going to the last 3) it being on Highfields instead of near Isis.

You Rutland kids try too hard.
And they are doing dump this year, on www.karni.co.uk they are way below other halls on the league!

Doesn't mean to say that they wont cheat again and get bouncing cheques or a donation from an undisclosed source...
Yeah, we've just agreed a contract with the same company- we're going Egyptian this year! And we're having entertainment too... contortionists and fire breathers and stuff. Oh, and we're working on drinks prices!

They're a very prfessional outfit, unfortunately that's reflected in their prices. More suited to the Corporate market that student fundraising unfortunately.

Without wanting to seem like I'm trying to tell you how to do your job, you need to get a big Company involved to try and subsidse stuff. As it's for Charity, it can be a tax write-off to them so you should be able to get something.

If you want some contact numbers for Drinks companies/Breweries, PM me. I'd be glad to try and help you out.
Are you trying to get yourself a contract there? You should offer to do it! I haven't been to a snowflake but I hear the crippling prices are the only downside. Why are they moving venues? cheaper or summat?

They seemed to be building a massive warehouse on it last time I went past... that might be why.

Yeah, ZF Gears, who own the land, have extended their factory again, so The Christmas Company (same as previous years) have applied for Planning Permission to go on the Highfields site, behind the Hockey pitches.

There's no way we could do an event like the Snowflake. The logistics are way too complicated. We could do the drinks side, but the catering and ents are way beyond us. Those guys have been going for years and really know what they're doing. I just wish they'd make the prices a little more 'student friendly'.

well, it's marginally less distance to stagger home... can only be a good thing! (after last time, especially...)
We can't get an outside company in to help with the drinks, unfortunately... believe me, we've explored it. We're having to negotiate our arses off to get the reduced drinks deals as it is, they'd never let us use their venue if they weren't going to profit from the bar! We are actively looking for extra sponsorship, but I'm not dealing with that at the moment so I'm not sure exactly where we've got so far.

We have looked in to not using a big company, but it's unviable for the time being. We've got what we consider to be an excellent deal... and the ball should be spectacular
Trust me they make a huge profit off their bars if the prices I have heard are anything to go by and are totally doing you over!!

Just tell everyone to get drunk before hand top themselves up periodically, that way they will drink loads regardles of price cos they are smashed!!
We're going to have some drinks reductions- there were supposed to be some last year, but they swindled us. We're not letting it happen again.

Yep, I got my confirmation a couple of days ago, Rutland Hall Private Study.

If results go correctly, I will be doing History at Nottingham next year.
Hmmmm, I don't think so... I have vague recollections of one that Emma (last year's president) set up last summer, but I'm not aware that Rishi (new president) has updated it, or even if it still exists.
Just today got an offer of en suite accommodation at Rutland Hall!
