Hey all,

So what's it to be? It's in August so weill probably be hot. I don't won a suit unfortunatly, and sadly cannot afford one at the mo.

I have some black trousers and can buy some shirts, but does that always look too much like you're in school uniform?

Any advice?

Han xx

I would buy/beg/borrow/steal a shirt. Your doing a mini-pupillage you have to look respectable and the easiest way that you know you are doing that is if you are wearing a suit.
Also, if you are looking for a reference at the end of it (even if you are not, one might come in useful later) you need to do everything that you can do create a good impression. Also, particularly if you want to return there again some other time.

Seriously, I reckon a suit might be theonly appropriate dresscode for a mini-pupillage, especially until you see what is required. The only other option is to ask, whats the worst they can say ... "suit duh!"

just wear black trousers/skirt with a nice shirt - i mean as long as its all ironed and clean then its all good.

I agree.

You really must look as professional as possible, in spite of not being able to buy a suit and the searing heat! Believe me I sympathise, I did vac schemes last July in the heatwave, it was 90 min drive every morning, I ended up looking so hot and sticky!!

Try and borrow a suit so you can at least take the jacket with you.
Or try borrow some money - my first emergency suit, bought when I was seriously skint but *had* to have a suit for my mooting, was forty five pounds from Dorothy Perkins. Not the best, but smart and did the job.

If this really isn't possible, smart trousers and skirts and nice shirts - clean and ironed impeccably as the previous poster suggested - will do.
Make sure your shoes are smart and clean, and closed toe - peep toe shoes / sandals really don't give the right impression, and unfortunately law is still quite stuffy and is all about the right impression.
And if its' hot, tie your hair back if possible, it'll look neater and keep you cooler  Or just keep it nice and neatly styled.
Neutral makeup, neutral nails - just keep everything clean, simple and smart.

Hope you enjoy yourself!!!

Um a suit for sure! The sales are good at the moment anyway! I got a somewhat bitchy remark for forgetting my smartest shoes and wearing nice smart shoes with a little canvas strip down them because they were classfied as 'fashion shoes' not 'work' shoes. This was from the solicitor involved in the case.
