bmi is utter crap ignor it. judging by your height and weight you sound about right i think

At 5ft 11 and 8stone8 you've gotta be anorexic if you think you're too big.

Reply 3

You don't look big at all! You're teenie from what I can see from your profile pic

Reply 4

I'm 5ft11 and 10 stone and I don't think I'm particularly big. From the pics I've seen of you you're really slim so I wouldn't worry at all.

16.7 is below the minimum recommended 18.5. A BMI of 17 or less can suggest an eating disorder. If anything you are underweight, but if you eat healthily and enough, you're just lucky to be slim.

That said, if you *think* you're fat - although I know you didn't use the word 'fat' then I'd start to worry. You mentioned a 'jelly belly', we all have bits we don't like and I'm sure nobody will notice it, it'll just be you!

I've just seen your profile picture, and i'd like to say that you are already, as your stats suggest, stick thin. don't worry; seriously. chill out.

My BMI is rougly 17, I havent got an eating disorder (I just forget to eat )

edit: just worked it out, its actually 16.4 :ninja:

The reccomended BMI is 18.5 - 24.9, anything below or above that and you should aim to adjust your weight accordingly. So for you, you need to put on weight.

If it's just your tummy you have a problem with, maybe try toning those muscles. You certainly don't want to be dieting.

bmi is rubbish, go on inches, or even try a body fat calculator, will give u a far better idea of where ur at

Reply 10

You can have a high body fat percentage but be a low weight because muscle weighs more than fat. In this case is is best to do resistance exercise to build up some muscle, which will firm you up (don't worry it won't bulk you up) and therefore putting yourself into the healthy range.

To be fair. It looks like you have a bit of a belly on your profile piccy.

Reply 12

Do you think that you look fat? Logically, do you think that you look fat?
And hows your eating, are you eating properly?

Malnutrition can affect the brain chemistry, distorting your self-image (which is why people with eating disorders tend to see themselves bigger than they are)

To put into context:

I am 5'8, BMI about 21-22 ( I weigh about 10st ). Even when I had an eating diorder once upon a time I was only about 18 on BMI. If you ask me you've no need to lose any weight: you don't even have a "jelly belly" issue as you put it. I look at my belly in mirror occasionally and think "eurgh" but then again when i look at everyone else's bellies who come into the shop where i work (hot weather = lack of clothing) i realise i am actually quite thin.

Yeah anyway you are fine dont worry you should be enjoying scoffing all those ice creams being as slim as you are!

BMI is rubbish. Despite the fact i exercise regularly, apparently im technically obese, which is nonsense. If you want a better reflection of how fat you are, i recomend having a go on a body fat monitor.

If that profile pic is recent, you may well have some form of eating disorder though.

Yeh I do see myself as being bigger than I should be; I feel big compared to the majority of girls I see walking down the street.

As far as eating goes I try to eat healthily, i.e. always have breakfast, usually my lunch/tea is a jacket potato or something simillar. I don't often get both lunch and tea because I work at mealtimes. All in all I think I eat reasonably healthily.

You look really good in your profile picture figure wise so I don't think you have any problems at all. Even though BMI is not that good your number is slightly below the recommended level and i do not believe that you need to loose weight.

If you want to tone up a bit then do some cardio exercise such as running, swimming ect. This will help you tone up the bit on your body that are maybe a bit loose.

Hope things go well but you have nothing to worry about

BMI is not rubbish, it just shouldn't be looked at in isolation. My doctors and specialists always refer to it, but it doesn't take a huge amount of common sense to realise that high BMI doesn't always mean overweight, as we all know that muscle weighs more than fat....

To clear this up before someone jumps on this - a cubic cm of muscle weighs more than a cubic cm of fat.

To the OP: Do you work/know about cals? If you do, aim to eat above 1200kcal - thats the absolute minimum that you should be eating. If you're eating relativly normally, you could have body dysmorphic disorder (google it if you're unsure)

Good luck and take care. x
