Going from friends to something more?

I've been friends with this guy for about four years. We've always been close, gone out for drinks just the two of us and have never had a fight in the four years we've known each other.

I've always found him really attractive and enjoyed spending time with him, but he had a girlfriend for the first three years we knew each other so I've never tried anything and have had boyfriends of my own in the meantime.

In the last month we've been getting really close to one another, kissed and... whatever else, and it's been great.

But, is it really possible to go from best friends to being in a relationship without losing the friendship?

From I know (which is pretty limited by the way!), if you're in a relationship then your other half is supposed to be your good/best friend. It's the same for marriage really.

My former flatmate at university was friends with a girl for 10+ years, since childhood actually, and they just got married recently. This point isn't relevant to your thread but friends can be something more.

my best friend and I have know each other from childhood, we have always been close, and we've been best friends for about 5years now, we have had on and off relationships with each other and we're still best friends.

if your friendship has the trust then I don't see why it would ruin your friendship if you two had relationship. hope it works out for you
