I know of someone who has had it, and they were really happy with the results.
Go to How Stuff Works to see how it's done. I have to admit that after watching a program about how it's done, there is no way that I would ever do it (and I'm not normally squeemish!)

i have cousins who did it overseas and they're fine. Bit over priced in england though, £600 an eye or something like that

I reckon I might save up for it when I'm older, and the details of the program I watched about it have faded a little from memory.

I've heard it can wear off after a few years, though.

i was all for having it done and then my brother's godmother got it done and nearly ended up blind, something went wrong and she could hardly see (and was unable to work) for about 6 months. and also if i got it done i'd probably end up wearing lenses again within a year or 2...

Yeah that's a point, what power of prescription do you currently need?

I havent done it, but im interested in doing it.
I know a friend who did LASIK operation. not sure about the differences between the different treatments. I only know that his eye sight was -5 and now he doesnt need glasses at all. he did it 6 years ago. He said his eyes felt itchy for a couple of days then it was okay.

Eyesight needing a prescription of -5 would very well be worth going for laser treatment, but anyone needing below -1 (or equivalent for long-sightedness) wouldn't be worth it.
I would love to get laser eye treatment although I think I might wait until I'm older and can save up for it, when it drops in price and when the safety is increased! Contact lesns and glasses are such a pain, and I wouldn't be sorry to see the back of them! But I also don't know how permanent eye treatment is, like my eyes are only as bad as they are now through being prescribed the wrong prescription and getting headaches and stuff which made my sight become gradually worse (-3 at the moment in both eyes, but I seriously am blind!), I'm hoping if I got laser treatment it would provide a solution and not just improve it to get gradually worse again
Worth waiiting, get a better idea of the long term side effects since it's still a relatively new treatment.
I created a thread about this a few months back. try searching for it. loads of people posted thier viewpoints on the matter.
Quick hijack here...

I wear glasses for driving at night, although i dont know what eye sight number I am at. If I say I can just about make out the licence plate number at the distance needed for the driving test practical, what number would I roughly be at?? I know it will be a very unaccurate guess but Im just curious...
I would love to not have the fuss and hassle of wearing glasses and contacts but I don't think I could go through with the surgery at the moment - it's expensive and there are odd cases where it goes wrong. I know this is the case for most surgery but I don't want to risk losing my vision right now.

Perhaps my view on this will change in the future, we'll see! (no pun intended  )

Ask your optician?

2 points to consider.

1. it doesn't last for ever, chances are your eyes will be back to how they were before in 10 years.
2. no one knows the long term effects of undergoing the surgery over and over again.

Sort of. Your eyes won't revert to their former short-sightedness.

People have a tendency to become Long-sighted with age.

If you have surgery to correct vision now , you could end up even more long-sighted as a result later in life.

Two friends have had the surgery. One said it was almost painless, one was in a lot of pain for about a week.
id like to have it done sometime

as my eyesight is now very poor (im very short sighted) and i worry if i was ever in a situation with no glasses or contacts, id be helpless and useless..unable to see much.

so id like it done for convience

and have heard that a lot of the myths about the negatives of eye surgery are just started by opticians who dont want to loose business!! (imagine if everyone had it done, nobody would be buying contacts or expensive frames)
i wld like it but they said to me that they werent 100% sure if it wld work properly so i wld still have to wear contacts
i dont think contacts r a pain unless ur going swimming or something then they are lol

If you look on How Stuff Works (link above in earlier post) it explains what you have to do afterwards.
