Hello,

I was wondering whether anyone could advise me on a thematic structure for the following question:

'Assess the view that all the rulers of Russia had similar aims in domestic policy'

I was thinking,

Aim to reform and modernise (agricultural and economic)
Aim of crushing opposition
Aim to retain power (mostly politically)

Then throughout, analysing the extent of similarity between Tsars and Communists in regard to their core priorities and then of course within each section for the rulers

Any advice?

What level is this for?

I think the first issue you need to deal with is: what does the question mean when it says ALL the rulers of Russia? (There have been a lot of them!!!) I imagine it would be pretty impossible to evaluate ALL the rulers against each other. So might need to think about that first of all.

I think your themes sound good - by aim of crushing opposition I'm assuming you mean internal opposition (for example, the Great Terror sought to eradicate internal opposition to the Stalinist regime)?

Aim for social reform might be another point to consider?
