Not excited

I'm going on the trip of a lifetime in a few days time, and I'm still not excited about it. I know it will be an amazing trip, that I'll love it etc, but I'm still not excited. Everyone coming with me is practically buzzing with excitement.... but not me. This is often the case, I find it really hard to get excited about stuff... christmas, birthdays, major events, etc.

This may sound really silly, but it is beginning to really bug me, approaching everything with just a 'yeah it'll be ok' mood, even though I want to be and know I should be excited about it. Does anyone know why I might be like this, or is the same? This is going to be an awesome month, and it's really upsetting me having to pretend to be excited to everyone who's helped with raising the money etc. Advice appriciated. :frown:

This sounds rather like me, but I hate Christmas for numerous reasons. I found it very difficult to get excited after having received my GCSE results as well.

It could just be a personality trait- I mean do you think you'll enjoy it while you're there? If not, and of course this can't be diagnosed easily or without medical intervention, but are you suffering from any other signs of depression, perhaps??

I think I will enjoy it while I'm there, but I suppose I'm worried that after all the hype and buildup to this trip (a year and a half now) it won't live up to expectations. I have been diagnosed as clinically depressed in the past... but I'm over it now (I think).

Hey don't worry about.
You'll probably get there and really like it.
So don't worry about it.
And hey if your not too excited then it makes the day of the trip come faster. I always hate it when it seems that the day of a trip seems to take forever to arrive.
Don't worry too much.

You're method is perfect.

If it's a great holiday you'll have exceeded expectations and had a great time. In future holidays you'll be excited as a result.
If it's crap then it won't be a huge let down.

To kpg - yes that's true, but on the other hand, everyone else is excited for me and I feel really ungrateful towards the people who've made this trip possible but not being excited and having to pretend to be all the time :frown:

Im the total opposite to you, i get excited over anything! Infact its often the smaller things that i get excited about most!

I think not getting excited is a good thing, getting excited leads to expectations and therefore being let down when things don't go according to plan, well atleast for me anyway.

I think a lot of people find that. It's because you build up your expectations so high about it being a special day (when in fact, there is nothing special or unusual about it) and when the day comes, it doesn't meet your expectations, nothing really special happens, and you have a higher fall from that peak of excitement to disappointment.

To the OP: I think it's totally natural for that to happen. I've experienced it many times, and I always get excited when I actually get to the place. Right now for example, I should be bouncing about and packing because I'm going to Germany tomorrow and seeing all my friends again, yet I'm sitting here on TSR... I don't actually believe I'm going yet tbh.
