I am definitely considering visiting California for 2 months, maybe travelling around to different areas such as Santa Barbara, San Diego, San Fran, L.A. etc.

How expensive is California for e.g. Eating out, socialising/drinking out and just generally doing what one does on a vacation?

Hey,

What kind of accomodation are you looking for? That's a big factor on cost.
California is pretty expensive compared to most places. It has the highest living costs in the States, so you know. I went to San Francisco a couple of years ago and I'm going to LA in a few weeks. I'm not 21 yet so I couldn't comment on drinking, and eating out really depends. You can go to some very high end resturants which will be very expensive but on the other end of the scale there are a lot of food trucks where you can grab some lunch that do really good food. As for museums/galleries etc (if you're interested in that kind of thing), there are some very good ones that are free in LA such as the Griffith Observatory and the Getty Centre, and I managed to go to a free day at California Academy of Sciences in SF which was so cool, I'd definitely check that out. Stuff like Universal Studios is pretty expensive.
Do you drive? Or will you be relying on taxis and public transport? Public transport is very good in the SF Bay Area and although it does exist in other areas it isn't that great.
Hope that helped you a bit!

$750/w, California is expensive when it comes to taxis (like all other places I guess) but drinking/socialising is cheap, eating out is the same as the UK, prices depend on location and quality of food. I was told that you could get away with $500/w but I personally found that impossible and spent $1,000/w as I kept taking taxis, if you can rent a car (I couldn't at the time), do so and you could get away with $500/w

I'll say that aside from taxis, California and the US is cheap as hell

If you want advice on where to go, I'll try and help out as best I can
