People often say that nottingham is pretentious and stuck up, if it really was they would call terms "Michealmas" and "lent" and im sure if lancaster and durham can get away with calling the halls *colleges* Nottingham certainly can. But it hasnt. SO surely this says something?

Nottingham is a top uni and I have no doubt that there is a stuck up element associated with that (on part of students I mean). However I have never experienced anything like this from the uni, everyone seemed genuinely nice and down to earth when I have visited / spoke etc... Again I think that the "stuck up" stigma comes from people assuming that any well ranked uni is immediately "stuck up". I also think that being a campus uni attracts the tag too (Durham, Notts, Warwick etc...).

Nottingham isn't bad for stuck-upness.

I wouldn't say Nottingham was stuck up either.

Im glad that other people dont think it is. If it wanted to it could be as bad as durham by tryong to call its accom *colleges* when they are only halls! That really annoys me, esp when i went to see lancaster! lol

i dont think it is stuck up. Tho i know people at Trent who call it *Beeston college* cus they think it is stuck up! lol

why do they call it Beeston college when it is no where near Beeston? and if they were after stuck up surely it would be more like "west bridgford college", or one of the other south river stuck up villages?
Nottingham is definitely less snobby than York/Durham, I know that.

I dunno, i have no idea of nottinghams geography! i told my mate whos BF is at Trent, that i was accepting notts as firm and she said *oh god not beeston college, its fully of posh wankers*!
My best mate from school is at Trent doing sport science and i go and see her at her flat regularly, her flat mates all know notts uni as *beeston college* for some reason!

strange, I think it is because they do like law and doctor courses, and perhaps a lot of them have come from well to do backgrounds or something. That would perhaps be less than half the students, and the uni it's self doesn't try to be snobby, anyhoo!

Loads of people from Trent call Nottingham Uni 'Beeston College', its just a name they give probably arising insecurity in the fact that Nottingham Trent is an ex-poly. University Park is officially in Lenton anyway, albeit juxtaposed with Beeston on one corner.

TBH I don't really care what a uni used to be, and who goes to what uni. Its fine if its just a laugh, but some people get carried away and i hate it when people judge people by their backgrounds, its just sad and insecure.

lol are you crazy?? Nottingham is so NOT stuck up! I've lived in various locations in Nottingham for a total of 12 years and I've never yet met a stuck up resident!
