I'm sorry, but that's just lies to make the other person feel better. "I don't wanna risk our friendship" means "I just don't fancy you, but I don't want to tell you this because you're my friend."
To be honest, if your friend has asked him, and he's said "no" then she'll probably get over what appears to be a crush (and they're stupid and ****ing annoying things) pretty quickly.
Sorry to be harsh, but stringing along hopes of more than friendship will just make you feel **** and probably make him feel really awkward.

Doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. He doesn't like it. That's why he can't see it. She should back off and leave him alone. Everyone else who thinks they're a perfect match is blatantly wrong because half the couple wouldn't be happy.

If she continues to chase after him, and is always demanding more than just friends. Shes gonna come accross extremely desperate and probabily ruin the friendship they have.

If he likes her, he will tell her. But i get where hes coming from, some people would rather be friends than risk it on something more.
