Cash office job interview at Tesco

Apparently I will have an interview but it seems I have some stiff competition from others.

I am currently doing some mini-research to help aid my chances. I have asked the personnel manager for the job description (though perhaps more discretely via someone else would have been better). I'll go in with a smart suit etc but can't think of too much else. Problem is, I have two people who have applied/thinking of applying where one has years of experience with administration work and the other already works in systems.

They ask for high numeracy and shift availablility outside of contracted hours, and my availbablity will be all the days and times. Pretty numerate having achieved a grade B at physics A level. Errrr so is there anything you can suggest for me please?

I'm really after this vacancy. :/

I was thinking of bringing in some material plus ROA. Material just to show what shifts I've done and at what notice to prove the availability but they can always look on the system but would need to know any references on short notice overtime accepted and I'll name them at the interview.

There is no harm in being able to reference when you have been available at short notice. However, I know it is important to you, but it is only a Cash Office job, so I wouldn't go too over the top. Just be yourself, be smile, answer questions honestly and with a considered view. Wearing a smart suit seems a bit much, a shirt and tie should do fine.

:dito: I couldnt understand you more. Checkouts is the worst department in the store. Although do you want to be working in fort knox everyday? No windows or nothing. Anyway im sure they already know you quite well (im guessing its only been advertised internally) and so they've probably made their mind up before the interview or maybe its just at my store things like that happen
Anyway good luck.

Update: had the interview and went okay I though. Looking back there were things I would have said but sometimes it's not always needed because they know me enough so I'm a known quantity. Was told that if I don't get the job that should other team leader roles become available then I'd be considered as will the other applicants, plus they give you feedback on your interview. Was told that if I didn't get it don't see it as a failure but an opportunity. Didn't see the logic in that.

There is another team leader vacancy available but I won't apply to it because my brother wants it so I told him if he applies it's his. Plus I'm going to play the waiting game. The person who got the best marks in the interview probably will want to come out after a few months as she has done on other areas. I got 19/21 and was deducted points because I don't have my own transport. Apparently this is because if a store fairly local has nobody working it or has a huge faux pas then I can get there relatively quickly. Was told in confidence that had I already had my own transport I would have got the job instead. :frown:

Bloody annoying. I've been wanting to learn how to drive but because of the hours I do I don't get too much spare time and I don't want to use it up on expensive driving lessons, plus I didn't have the money at one point. Also I have a history of coming second and it happened again.

Could try the options programme I guess. :/

Dumb questions/scheme from head office...

Why would you want to do Options? Aren't you at uni?

(And it helps if you're a Team Leader first if you want to do the General Assistant > Section Manager programme).

No I'm not at university. Might do an external programme or something.

Funny, the person who beat me with the scored interview hasn't been pulled of dairy to go into cash office because some authorisation required by the store manager or something. Meanwhile, I'll ask management if I can have Gurpal's place on fresh since it's Mon-Fri and hours more to my liking than Gurpal's hours. Should she not like it then we can just shift swap and no interview will be held from the personnel manager, supposedly.

Scored interview? Your store must be much more professional than the ones I've worked in. Nepotism usually reigns supreme, although occasionally behind the curtain of such beaurocracy!
Tesco do appear to be very set on this whole scoring system, and like to include it in the most inappropriate places. You get scored on most aspects of your training, interviews, retraining, applications, oh and more retraining.
