rant about public transport

ok. i want to rant about f******* public transport. i hate it, and i'm talking mainly about buses- i like trains and they don't leave without you or tell you they're going somewhere when they're not or who stare at you and think you're an idiot for not understanding their stupid little brains (drivers here). i'm sure the london and city buses are great as they have a fixed route and they are reliable- this is a s**t country service thats so crap. i'm sticking to trains in future.

Aww. Yeah I hate buses too. I got on one, and the bus driver is like "our ticket machine is broken, wait 20 minutes for the next one" in a rude manner. I was just like.. stupid bus driver. Errrgh. London buses are not great. Especially in this heat. :frown:

tbh, i wish i was in london right now. it's the only place in england that i feel truly happy, lol. stuck here in the middle of wiltshire (nowhere) is mind numbingly depressing. but thank god theres a train station 5 mins from me with a direct line to london- problem is it's 18.00 return :frown:. loads of people say it's sad to go to london on your own just to shop or whatever, i've never been on my own, normally with friends, but i imagine you could go wherever YOU wanted to go and shop wherever. i don't think it'd be sad at all. lol

Lol awww. :hugs: (that made me go awww out loud. :p:) London is cool, must admit, I'm bout 40 mins by tube to get to Central London. Ha I couldn't cope in the countryside. :p: Mmm shopping in London. It's awesome. Oh dear £18.. shouldn't be that much? If you have a look on train websites like in advance, you can get here for much cheaper I'd think. But yeah, public transport sucks!

hahahaa, no comment about the depressingly sad act of going to london on your own (it must be noted though that i have never done it!!! but the frustrating thing is that you have to fit in what your friends want to do when you don't want to) hence i'd rather live in london. it takes me 1hr and a bit to get into paddington. and it's not that much cheaper!!! oooh, i just subbed btw. i was a sub around christmas to march, but then it ran out.

Yes I believe you.. don't worry, you're not a loser. :p: Yeah people do go out on their own, but London's crazy and sooo busy, it's a bit scary. Hah I sound so sad. Oh wow you're a young oneee! Woooh life.. yeah uni in Sept.. still in London woohoo!

Busses have got a lot better in London over the last couple of years due to the massive penalization brought on the motorists.

London is just as bad. Its 6 times busier than the next largest; Birmingham. Okay, so we have more trains and busses and the underground and ferry etc, but this is still nowhere near adequate.
Feh. I've been to London and their transport is overcrowded, but still far faster and more convenient than any other public transport I know of. You don't even need a timetable most of the time.

i completely agree. one of the buses i get to work is supposed to come every 10 minutes. on Tuesday i missed the half 12 bus, thought nothing of it, just get the 12:40 instead and i'll get to work in plenty of time. the 12:40 never came, neither did the 12:50, neither did the 13:00. so there's me getting more stressed out in the baking heat, getting later and later for work. i pay £12 a week for this crappy service
and my second connecting bus was late :frown:
and this is one of the main services between Manchester and Bolton, not one of those little comapnies that go round the houses picking all the old people up.

i hate buses.

it's no wonder bus drivers get so much abuse. i really felt like abusing one on tuesday :frown:
Bah.

I live on the Wirral where the only train service we have is Merseyrail. Consequently, they can charge whatever the **** they like - and they do so. Just over the Mersey into Liverpool from here costs over £1.50 for what... maybe three miles? And yet to London Euston (from Liverpool, nearest long-distance train station to me, practically across the country from London too) it's £12.50. Buses are worse though - once charged me £1.70 for a two-minute ride.

Timetables are non-existent in London. Although the flipping tube closes at around 01:00hrs which is so stupid, but engineering works have to be done on a daily basis you see
On local trains there are a couple of ways I save money (this is for Northern Rail, so it may ot work elsewhere):

: Don't buy on the train, buy at the ticket office. This is often cheaper.
: On local trains a return is usually cheaper than two singles.
: Get a railcard.

Between these a £7.90 return to Newcastle can go as low as £3.25 for me
i tried to pay for my fare of £1.15 before with a tenner and being told to get off and the buses are only once an hour where i live anyway so i gave up and started cycling. i haven't used a bus in over a year!
travel on the trains late at night and you don't even need to buy a ticket as all the barriers are open and there are no inspectors
