3 times and you fail?

My friend recently went to some college to do some making of an organic product. The tutors who were helping him were telling him what type of stuff happens etc. Hes not sure if hes heard this right, but he says that one of the tutor said, '' if you're told 3 times what to do in the lab'' you get failed and you're asked to walk out. is this true?. do you think he misheard her and she was actually reffering to the safety aspect. i.e. wear your goggles. any views would be appreicated. I want to do pharmacy but im worried about the whole if you dont understand it and weve told you 3 times then you fail.

Hey, don't worry so much!! I've never heard of this '3xs wrong - you fail' rule!!!
I've never heard that ... only in reference to the pre-reg exam. Once in a lab class I dropped my testtube in the water bath so lost everything and the lecturer was really nice to me and told me to look at someone else's results and then write what happened in the report and he wouldn't take any marks off me ... another time my friend and I shook something too much and it exploded everywhere but again the lecturer didn't have a go or send us out or anything. And I'm always asking the Phd students stuff in pharmacology.

ok cool thanks for the replies, that is really good for me to hear especially as im rubbish at practicals. thats what worries me.
Aaah don't worry, I'm pretty clumsy (as you can tell from my previous post). As long as any mishaps occur by accident and not cause you were messing around I don't see why any lecturer would have a go at you.

about that 3 times thing, it's probably true you will get screwed up if you fail your pre reg exam 3 times...

i dont think he meant the exams themselves

I'd guess it's only in the actual exams that this is true
And don't worry about being a bit clumsy in practicals now - it comes with practice and you'll get plenty soon enough!

The tutor was probably saying something like "if you have to be told to put safety glasses on 3 times u'll be asked to leave". I know thats what they do in some labs at Bath. Never known anyone fail a lab for asking for help - i';m sure the tutors would rather you asked for help than messed up because u were too scared to.

when i went to an open day at UEA in norwich, we made up our own hand creme. at the end some one came it and looked at the woman that was showing us to make it and said: why aren't they wearing safety gloves? and she said: well it's supposed to be a hand creme isn't it? so it can't be dangerous.. but of course if your experimenting it's a different issue.
