Hello, I'm asking a question on behalf of someone else.

As the entry requirements for a non-LLB legal studies degree are lower than a degree in LLB.
Would it be possible after gaining entry into BA or (undergrad MA in some unis) Legal Studies to switch to LLB in 2nd year?

Has anyone here done this or tried this?

You would need to get high marks in your BA modules to be considered for entry to the LLB. Also the modules on the BA would need to match up to the LLB for the first year.

You would need to still make sure you're completing the 7 foundations in law to gain an LLB. So, for example, if criminal is taught in year 1 of the LLB, and you don't do it on the BA, and you get accepted into year 2 of the LLB, your degree won't be a qualifying law degree for the use of becoming a solicitor or barrister, as you wouldn't have completed the necessary modules, so you'd still end up with a BA.
