Nuvaring?

This questions is for the medic types or anyone else who knows.

There's a birth control method in the US called Nuvaring, it's a ring you insert and leave in for 3 weeks, it releases hormones. I want to try it, but I did a Google search and can't figure out if it's availabe in the UK. If it's not, I'll get a prescription here before I leave. But it would be easier to get it when I start my course in the UK as I can go back to the doctor with any problems if I have them.

Thanks.

I've never heard of that in the U.K. I'm pretty up to the know on Birth Control too.

Can't beat the pill though, and that's definatly available here

It's actually supposed to cause fewer side effects as the pill, as there are less hormones released. And you don't have to worry about it for three weeks!

Oh well guess I'll get a large stock here before I leave.

lol - Good plan

The only benefits from that are the pregnancy protection im assuming?

I assume you're going to be careful. STI's are becoming more common in the UK unfortunatly.
I heard about that and asked my GP. Its not registered in the UK yet, but she said she would let me know as soon as it is.

Oh, of course. It's just that I plan to get a boyfriend. So once we are both tested etc I'd like to use the Nuvaring. But if I can't get it in the UK, I'll have to get it here, bring them with me, and just keep them until I get into a relationship.

Have you thought about the coil or about the injection... both of those are fairly long term forms of contraception availabe . Otherwise make sure you get an email address or number for your doctor in america so if when you're over here and you have any questions you can still get in contact

The coil and injection are too long term!

The Nuvaring works like this:
Put ring in vagina. Leave for three weeks. At the end of three weeks, remove, throw away, have period. Repeat next month with new ring.

You can take it out at any time, you put it in yourself. It's not surgically placed or anything.
