Well you have to go to the grocery store to get veggies, and the hall food vegetables are inedible......

How else do you buy your food other than going to the grocery store? I take it your accomodation is catered?

I'd say its damn easy getting fruits in, in between lectures and such, veggies can be added to meals but if you're not the one cooking it would be hard...

Have a can of Heinz baked beans counts for one of your daily portions!

Hey. I try to eat as many vegetables in my diet as possible, but in Uni it sort of gets difficult. I want to keep my health up, so does anyone know any easy ways of making sure you get your five a day?

One portion of you 5 a day is a handful of whatever you want to eat. So a handful of grapes is one portion.

Ohhh that's meant to say:

'Half a can of Heinz baked beans counts for one of your daily portions!'

I got confused halfway though writing 'half' and 'halve' hehe

So...2 and a half cans is all you need

It's meant to be 5 different portions though isn't it?

If you're in catered halls then buy some carrots and snack on raw carrot sticks. If you're making a sandwich put some lettuce, tomato and cucumber in with or without egg or meat etc to add a bit of veg.

If you're in self catered and it's an issue of going out to buy fresh stuff then buy bags of frozen peas, sweetcorn and/or mixed veg that you can keep in the freezer. No need to go out lots to buy fresh stuff and they still count

It is supposed to be 5 different things.

I found having fruit smoothies was a good way to get a couple of portions every day. You can usually get them quite cheap too, as they have short shelf lives so shops are always trying to get rid of them in the afternoons before they go off.

I tend to snack on apples, tomatoes etc., so maybe just switch any crisps or whatever to some fruit/veg.
A lot of veggies you don't need to cook, so you don't need to worry too much about preparation.
Frozen and tinned stuff is great if you're worried about expiry dates, however if you stick fresh stuff in the fridge then it should last for at least a week.

To make sure I get my five a day at breakfast I'll have a glass of pure fruit juice, and I'll either chop up a piece of fruit to put on my cereal or I'll put a handful of sultanas on my cereal.
At lunch time I either have a veg as a part of my main lunch or I'll follow it with a piece of fruit.
At dinner time I'll either have two pieces of veg with my meal or I'll have one and then a piece of fruit for my desert.
