What about Maradona?

Maradona would probably fit just below Ronaldinho/Zidane just because he wasn't as good as them

Reply 41

In any team - Ronaldo. He's complete. In a Barca/Bayern set-up - Messi.

Pele>Ronaldinho=Zidane>Messi>Ronaldo

Pele = 3 world cups
Ronaldinho = 1 world cup
Zidane = 1 world cup + epic headbutt
all in a tougher era without all this diving nonsense nowadays

Messi+Ronaldo = 0 world cups even with the bias of the referees towards attacking players these days i.e calling a foul if anyone gets touched

Pele is the greatest but garincha was better

What about Maradona? He didn't have much of an amazing team when he won the World Cup

If he hadn't cheated he wouldn't have won it

Because Ronaldinho is better or because Messi is better?

Because Messi is better. Ronaldinho is a second tier great. He didn't last long enough at the top to be compared with the likes of Messi.

Pele is the greatest but garincha is better

Might be better technically with the ball but he doesn't bring the numbers pele brings.
1366 apperances 1282 goals

The world cup argument makes no sense. Pele played in a Brazil team full of brilliant players, while Ronaldo plays in a team with Nuno Gomes and Raul Meireles.

If we're doing the trophy argument, Messi has 3 champions leagues, Pele has 0

Ronaldinho could do things on the pitch that no player could ever do. Messi benefits from having an amazing side, Ronaldinho had a very good team but the Barca team Messi has been a star in recent years in markedly better than the team Ronaldinho carried for a few seasons he was at his peak. Ronaldinho can change the entire game throw producing a killer unorthodox pass, dribble past a player or two, deliver a great free kick but he was at times hit or miss whereas Messi is far more consistent, a better out and out dribble he isn't very fancy but his explosiveness is something to behold.

The only player I would probably say in my lifetime that I saw, that equally amazed me the way Ronaldinho did was a PRIME Ronaldo back at Barca/Inter.

Half of those were in friendlies, the rest were in the Brazilian League. Messi gets a goal a game in a top level league

Out of those two? Messi.

Out of the four mentioned by other posters? Zidane.

1. Zidane
2. Cristiano Ronaldo
3. Messi
4. Ronaldinho

Zidane was just magic.

Pele never played in europe therefore no champions league but he did win 2 copa libertadores so total important trophy haul = 3+2 compared to messi of 0+3

In the case of Ronaldo, I do feel sorry for him to be lumbered with the deadweight he has to carry at international level

Come on man

77 goals in 92 internationals can't really be blamed on a poor league. This is against the best players in that country and in a tougher era.
While messi has 37 in 83 even with the ref on his side.

That's your opinion. I have mine. Ronaldinho is vastly overrated imo.

Garincha's week.

Play football in the park with his boys whilst skipping training (sometime hustling for money using his football skills). Go on a bender at night waking up totally wrecked the next morning. Repeat till the weekend. Go to match on weekend and beast it. And then go back to getting pissed.

The guy didn't take football seriously yet he was beasting.

And how exactly wasn't he as good as them? Did they inspire very average teams to greatness?

Really don't know why ronaldinho is being considered when he was only great for a couple of years. If he was more consistent then maybe he could have been considered the greatest ever

Same with Ronaldinho and George Best(Who was AMAZING). Truth is they're all just a bunch of drunks
