Girls at initial stages of a relationship

Hey,

Why do girls, especially when you tell them you like them or during the intial stages of a relationship, try to make you jealous? It didnt happen to me ONLY but also to many of my friends. And whenever you make THEM jealous, say by spending time with another girl or not giving them the usual attention, they then start coming for you and in a way start liking you more.

The more attention you give to a girl the less she will start liking you. The thing is it is difficult to give them less attention (so they start liking you more) because sometimes you cant help it especially if you like them ALOT. I'm not saying this is entirely true but like i think this is what i've experienced.

I can't speak for all girls but I know that the harder I have to work for a guy's attention, the more I enjoy it when I've got it. I like a challenge. If I'm given lots of attention I get bored.

Are you still posing a question or just telling us about what you've 'experienced'

This is what I said last time someone asked this question:

'The reason is because in the seduction phase of a relationship women like imagining that the are the prize, they enjoy the chase and like to let a guy catch them. By expressing your feelings to them and giving them attention you are giving yourself away to her too easily therefore lowering your worth in her eyes and taking away the anticipation that was in her mind. In other words the more attention adn feelings you give her the less valuable she will regard you. At their core nature women want men- ie: people who are competitive, confident, dominant and like to win their territory. By showing your feelings to early you are not acting like a man, you would be acting like a women and therefore the attraction lowers.'

It's a cat and mouse game, just enjoy it and play it better than them.

If I actually like a particular guy, any attention he gives me could never be 'too much' or off-putting. So maybe the girl just doesn't like you that much. Maybe you should try to accept that possibility instead of thinking up other reasons to evade the most probable one.

Wrong. It is a fact that if a guy starts overdoing the attention too early in a relatonship the level of attraction falls.

I know how I feel and react infinitely better than you ever will. Therefore I am not wrong.

Girls often don't tell the truth about what they want and feel though.

Very well known  You want the girl to be competing for his attention with other girls and activities. make her work for it!

Exactly. Too many guys make the mistake of giving one girl too much attention too early and expressing all his feelings to her. You should make her work for your attention and she will like it better that way.

Exactly the same can be said for guys though. But trust me, I am telling the truth, there is no motive for me to lie. Maybe I'm an exception, but it's the stupid mind games and the 'treat-her-mean-keep-her-keen' 'principle' that put me off. Not 'excessive' attention from a guy I like at the 'early stages in a relationship'. The only thing that would cause me to be put off by too much attention is if I don't like the guy. In which case, it wouldn't matter anyway because I wouldn't be thinking of getting involved with him in that way in the first place.

for me personally, i would like it if the guy gave me attention and shared his feelings about me with me-- and i would definately find it off-putting if the guy was trying to make me jealous/ ignoring me on purpose.
i would rather he was straight forward and honest.

so, at the end of the day, i think it really depends on the particular girl and whether she enjoys striving to get your attention

:ditto:

i feel the same way

seconded.

edit: but i have to say there is a point where attention and spending time with a person can be seen as 'clingy'. i dont like clingy guys because it makes them seem desperate and it's quite frankly, a little unsettling. but if i like a guy i love to spend time with him and speak to him a few times a week; not neccessrily every day. but contstant attention? i have to admit it would put me off. however, if i know a guy is trying to be 'cool' by ignoring me and trying to play bull**** mind-games, then forget it. i'd not in for that crap.

I guess I'm not an exception after all! Looks like the OP and Amnesia are gonna have to come up with another excuse for girls being put off by them! Maybe self-examination would be a useful first step.

Thanks guys, it means alot. I was just thinkinga about it alot for a long time.

I kinda like this girl and she knows that. She always smiles to me when we walk past each other, and whenever I can I always give her chocolates or sweets in school. But when I started giving her less attention (i.e. pretened not to see her at times and stop giving her chocolates) she would come and kinda like rub around my back and say " hey how are you? havent seen you for some time, where have you been" and THEN I CAN START a decent convo with her. If on the other hand I give her too much attention, she would, (like she did once) just walk off with another guy or something.

Something that just occurred to me. Some girls 'use' guys for the attention they give them, it's a self-esteem boost. Guys do it to girls too but that's not relevant here. So yeah, if you find she comes running when you stop giving her attention (or as much attention as you previously gave her) then it probably means she doesn't like you for you, but rather, for the attention you've been giving her.
