We did an experiment in class and it asked us...

We used potatoes and put them in beakers of blackcurrant squash and measured osmosis and weighed before and after
the question asked

1 Why is it a good idea to remove all the potato skin?

2 Why do we dry the chips on a paper towel before weighing them?

& Why are all the potato pieces the same length?

Anyone know why? Cheers

3 is to make sure they have the same s/a for osmosis the others i know but you'll have to work out they are factors that will affect the rate of osmosis you just have to search it on google.

Im not sure on these but....
1. the potato skin can act as an extra barrier
2. drying removes any excess liquid on the potatoes
3. same surface area

Read ^^^ That's pretty much it.

for 2) it pretty much decrease the rate of osmosis if you don't remove it. Think of it as diffusion distance.
