"THE CHESS prodigy who died after falling from an eighth-floor window faced the prospect of having to give evidence in the trial of her father, who is accused of raping her. Jessie had been taking part in the Czech open chess championship during her gap year, and was due to study medicine at Oxford.

Jessie Gilbert, 19, is suspected of taking her own life by throwing herself from the hotel room in the Czech Republic on Wednesday night. It has emerged that she may have been tormented by the imminent criminal case alleging she was raped by her father. Her father, Ian Gilbert, a 48-year-old City banker, faces trial next month on seven counts of rape and two of indecent assault. If he had denied the charges in court next month, Jessie would have faced the prospect of being cross-examined.

She died after falling from her window at the Hotel Labe in Pardubice, 65 miles east of Prague. Captain David Krkada, an investigating officer, said it was likely she had committed suicide. Captain Krkada said “My personal opinion is that it is more likely to have been suicide than an accident.” Anti-depressants had been found in her room and there were suggestions she had previously attempted self-harm."

what a loss :frown:

i read somewhere else though that she sleepwalks and one suggestion was that she could have been sleepwalking..and thus it was an accident..but that rape thing by her father? omg...

she has 3 other sisters right? and he's a city banker, you'd think thats a pretty respectable job..and that he's more mature than this

He is alleged to have molested multiple victims. This might have included some of her sisters.

It has nothing to do with maturity. It is to do with him being a criminal pedophile. He works with the private banking section of the Royal Bank of Scotland. The death sentence should be brought in for all rapists and pedophiles.

Having a high-flying career probably made him more disposed to this sort of mindset, if the allegations are true. Lots of power and pressure....
I am totally agaisnt the death penalty and cannot understand people who condone it but the allegations are pretty shocking so if he is guilty I'm sure justice will be served in the proper way. Poor kid - the dysfunction in her life must have been immense.

Are you seeking some sort of collective revenge, or do you genuinely think a 20 year gaol sentence isn't an effective deterrent?

People don't commit crimes because they've decided that the crime is worth the punishment. They commit them because they expect not to serve the punishment at all. An expectation that will be raised if they know that they will be facing a jury reluctant to carry out such a sentence.

20 years will come and go, but he'll still fancy children.

There's nothing in the article that mentions paedophilia. He's obviously got a problem if he commits incest, but he is not being charged for paedophilic offences; his victims, from what it seems from the article, were sexually mature. He has not shown evidence of 'fancying children', or at least he certainly hasn't acted upon any such feelings.

I'm not trying to apologise for this beast, but what you said is erroneous.

Either that or Emasculated (for the lower acts of peadophillia i.e. indecent exposure..)

Evidence goes against that kind of assumption. When you look at serial rapists/paedophiles/murderers, most of them are unemployed or in dead-end jobs, rarely do you see any with a "high-flying career", given it'd be hard to hold down those sort of jobs if you have such serious mental issues.

Hmm, I have played a chess game with that girl before... :frown:

Correct.

The title of this thread is a little misleading; he is only accused of rape and whether his daughter was involved at all is not known.

1. He has only been ACCUSED.
2. Her having a place waiting for her at Oxford doesn't mean it's relevant to this forum. She was in Europe, shall we put it in the gap year forum too, or travel?
3. 'Was she a TSR user?!'. Loving your priorities there, mate.
