I'm 18 and 5'3"

Yeah, I'm female but - you're hardly that short, really.

And anything told to you about your health when you're sat at a computer is usually inaccurate.

I know this is going to sound stupid but do online height predictors actually work?

I've always been worried about my height and atm I'm 14 and at 5 ft 3 inches.

All the height predictors ive tried hav put me at 5 ft 10/ 5 ft 10.5

Are they all unreliable?

Thanks

Sorry, irrelevant, but OH MY GOD YOUR SIG IS HURTING MY EYES.

And no, they don't work.

To a great extent your height is based on genes, if you have tall parents/grandparents then chances are you will also be tall. Height predictors are based on averages, so only a small percentage of the population are actually that height the others are either taller or smaller, but in equal numbers making the average be on 'common ground'.

You reach half your height when you are two years old averagely.

The idea is that by certain ages you've reached a certain percentage of your height. For example as insparato said youre half your height or something like that at two years of age. I would have thought that once you get over about ten they are even more unreliable as every one starts puberty at different times, and obviously growth spurts happen during puberty. I certainly wouldnt assume that you will be that height, see what happens!

Yeah, it's something like 2 for girls and for boys. It's reasonably accurate, actually - from that I was predicted to be 5'10 and I'm only about an inch short of that.

Anything on the internet is likely to be unreliable though, especially if it's based on averages and you're mid-puberty.

Wrong.

You are only 14, you got plenty of years to grow. Ask when your dad grew the most and how tall he was at your age.

My dad is 6 foot 1 and apparently he starting growing properly when he was 15 ...
Can I just ask also how much does sleep affect your growth?

I know I'm defintely not sleeping enough!

Last night I had 4 hours worth of sleep :frown:

I was 5 ft 4 at age 14, and now at (almost!) age 18 I am about 5 ft 10.5, so that predictor sounded pretty accurate. I have a short family however (on both sides) so God only knows where my height has come from...

Nah, not really - they're past the first big growth spurt at that age, so it's fairly normal, I think.
In the morning when you wake up you can be up to half an inch (?) taller then when you go to bed because the weight on your spine makes you shrink. If you really want to grow taller then go into space as the lack of gravity can put inches onto your height.

I was like 5 foot at 15... I'm 5'8 now.

OP: Your'll be about 6 foot easy, just a late developer by the sound of thing.
