Between 'liking' people

This isnt me..its my mate. Unfortunately.

Basically, for about four or five months she used to fancy me (I had no idea until two weeks ago, when someone told me) but, somewhere in the vicinity of the last month or so, she has attempted to refocus her crush onto someone else. Whilst, some of our mutual friends have told me I should just give up, our closest friend has in fact told me that she had to convince herself to like the new person, that she had to really try and that she probably still has feelings for me.

Im just wondering, she's spent so long liking me already. Would it be harsh to go and ask her out...especially if she's trying to like someone else? Oh and some help on how to go about asking her would ne nice too :p:

Ask her out. Say "i've never told you this before but I really like you. Do you want to maybe go out some time?" and then suggest something fun to do. Easy.
