There has been discussion of this on threads in the past, with probably not enough statistical skill to come to a conclusion. The last statistic I saw was that there were about 2,700 applicants in each year with some variation between years. There hasve been about 400-450 pupillages in each year. If one assumes a steady state, similar number entering from BPTC, similar number leaving due to getting a pupillage, giving up or qualifications expiring, that is about 1 in 6.

However, in reality the averages are deeply unrepresentative because applicant quality tends not to be a normal distribution. There is a significant proportion of "never in a month of Sundays" applicants.
