AFAIK it's not as 'good' as Sheffield(if you wanna believe university league tables...)...my friend is at Keele and she really has a good time there.I think they supposedly have the best SU in the country IIRC?

Personally, I regard Sheffield as a more respected university. A French & Politics degree at Sheffield should hold you in good stead for a career in Law, if thats what you wish to pursue  xxx.
I'd say Sheffield was very well respected, and Keele was reasonably to well respected.

I wouldn't say that. I can think of atleast 20 other unis that are better for Law - and Sheffield is one of them xxxx.

I'm aware that the following statement isn't very helpful but Keele have a lovely looking prospectus this year. You can call me shallow but it is just very pretty.

According to The Times Good University Guide:

Overall, Sheffield is ranked 24th; Keele is 52nd.
For French, Sheffield is ranked 11th; Keele doesn't make the top 20.
For Politics, Sheffield is ranked 9th; Keele doesn't make the top 20.
For Law, neither make the top 20.

The Guardian's University Guide 2006 places Sheffield in the 400+ band for Law with a Guardian teaching score of 65.43/100. Its teaching inspection score is 5/6, it gets 2/10 for spend per student and its student:staff ratio score out of 6 is 4. Its job prospect score is 8/10 while its value added score is 4/6. Its entry score is 8/10 and its inclusiveness score is 1/6.

Keele is in the 320-400 bracket. Its Gaurdian teaching score is 64.60 and its teaching inspection score is 6/6. It only gets 1/10 for spend per student and its student:staff ratio score out of 6 is 5. Its job prospects score is 8/10 while its value added score is 3/6. The entry score is 6/10 and its inclusiveness score is 1/6.

If you just take that muddle of "statistics" alone, they seem quite comparable.

But I don't believe in relying on league tables.

no but in terms of reasearch and teaching ratings where they got 5* lol. its jsut the rest of the uni is a bit poor which is why is falls down.
So, from an employers point of view do u think that having my law degree from Keele may let me down due to its reputation for not being an all round good university....i dont think il be able to convert to law at Sheffield as the entry requirements are AAA and they are quite popular.Im checking that route out though. Thanks for all the stats help Lottie.....with regards to the Politics/French im doing at the moment....I know my degree here at Shef is not bad at all and thus seems more likely il stick and do the conversion....do not think where my first degree comes from will count in the eyes of a law firm recruiter.....well I think that anyway??? :s-smilie:

I am just concerned cos I know Keele have good feedback for research and teaching...but as theyre not in the league tables....I am not sure whether the law school there is that renowned that my potential employers will recognise it!??

They're both good. Employers only check on the departments. I'd rather go to a nice place to live than go to a mediocre city.
