In its ruling, the court said that it agreed with one lawyer's statement which was based on a fatwa that said that a woman who does not cover up or wear a hijab is considered a "slut" and shouldn't be allowed to testify in court.

Lol this.
Strange how the royals of these Arab countries don't have to abide by the strict laws of Islam... Hmm. Do I smell tyranny?

For one its most likely that this hijabless-slut thing isn't in Islamic law:

According to the fatwa, which the court's decision was based on, women who aren't covered up are "sluts," and that gives those women a bad name. Furthermore, the court was unable to support this fatwa apart from with something written in the introduction of a book by Egyptian Islamic Theologian Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi.
Two - yes that is indeed the smell of tyranny.

Religion is the last refuge for the worlds nutters.

I can't believe anyone is actually surprised by this. Saddened, certainly. Surprised? Nah.

It's an interesting set of religious laws and as long as it has no place here It's simply something we can study, so I don't care that much either way. But just to clarify for the good people, lets say I stole something from a shop and thus fit into the Hudud category of offenses, where punishments are mostly clearly outlined in the Qu'ran or solid Hadith, what would be my punishment? Then lets say I stole twice, what would happen then? This isn't your personal view of course, I'm just asking what the Qu'ran dictates should occur in this situation?

The punishment depends on a range of factors - price of the item, your personal circumstances and so on.

I can't name them all of the top of my head. I'll have a look for you after work though.
