I have already made a firm choice or if I have received an offer from a University on UCAS but haven't made it my firm choice?

I would like to apply to another University but don't want to decline the offer that I have received as I am not 100% sure whether my application for the University I want to apply to will be successful or not.

How many choices have you entered?

Assuming you haven't firmed yet, then if you've entered 5 then you can't add any more without going into Extra, which would necessitate giving up any offers you already hold.

If you've entered less than five choices, you may enter more up to a total of five whilst retaining your existing offer. However, before you enter any choices ring the relevant unis to ask if there are places available, because the Extra lists are often just plain wrong.

If you have firmed, then unless you've only firmed within the last seven days, it's too late I'm afraid.

I have applied to six firms so far. The University that sent me an offer is the one I chose using UCAS extra. If I confirm it as my firm choice, will I still be able to apply to another University using the UCAS extra option or will I have to go through the clearing process?

No, you can only hold one offer at once via Extra.

At this point, you can
- go to the uni you currently have an offer from
- give up that offer and go through Extra again
- give up that offer and go through Clearing later
- give up that offer, take a gap year and reapply

What has caused you to change your mind so much? You're clearly rather conflicted, and if you're struggling to make your mind up this much, then it may be a good idea to take a gap year, think through your options and apply for unis you really want to go to.

You cannot apply to another university whilst holding an Extra offer. Before rejecting this offer, do check the university you are interested in still has places- many are not brilliant about updating their clearing lists.

If you firm the offer, then you will not automatically be able to go through clearing. If your firm accepts you, then you would need to get them to release you to enter clearing. This normally takes 24-48 hours, but as clearing is a busy time, it can take longer, causing you to miss out on clearing places. Obviously if you miss your offer and are rejected, you would enter clearing automatically.

Why have you changed your mind about the uni you applied to via Extra? You must have only applied to it fairly recently, and you must have liked it at the time?
