Hair stripping...

I know I've sort of posted about this before but I'm still confused and neeeed answers

Natural hair colour = light brown
Hair colour now = was kinda black, but now more of a reddy brown.

So, if i were to get the dark dye stripped out of my hair...

a) How long would the process take? Like, would it be one session at the hairdresser? or several?

b) Would I go ginger for any period?

c) How much is it likely to cost?

d) Any recommendations for hairdressers to do it?

e) Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu

a) Usually tends to take quite a while but it will depend on how much colour you have in, how dark it is and the condition of your hair. One trip to have it stripped, most probs another for a re-colour.

b) Let's hope not.

c) I don't know but my friend had it done when her hair went to totally MING, it actually cost her nothing; her hairdresser did it for free because she was so disappointed with the outcome of her colour. If you have self-coloured and are just visiting a salon for a strip, it could cost quite a bit - salons make their money on stuff like this. The price of a colour I reckon.

d) Don't go anywhere skanky; don't be tight with this. Go somewhere where the stylists will be experienced, Toni + Guy or somewhere on a par. Stretch your budget.

hope I've helped a bit.

Thanks RR. I'm willing to spend a bit for a good job. Just want my natural colour back and I'm not sure how I can achieve it. *sigh*

- mine took 2 trips to the hairdressers, mine was bluey black (like the blackest you can get) and my natural hair is light brown

b) Would I go ginger for any period?

- I did, it was a flame effect, lighter near the roots, redder near the bottom, totally depends what colour black it is and whether you dyed the black over anything...
I dyed black over pink so this may be why mine went VERY ginger/red

c) How much is it likely to cost?

- totally depends on the hairdressers, mine cost £40, same cost as a colour

d) Any recommendations for hairdressers to do it?

I went to my local hairdressers, they used to be good but my stylist left so if I was to do it now I'd go to a big brand like Saks

hope it goes ok for you.... just be patient with it... maybe stripe it once then dye it brown... like dark enough to cover all the crap bits?!
best bet is to ask the stylist!

So, does stripping it mean I will get my natural colour back? Or just go a ginger colour and have to dye it brown over that? Because I'm trying to get out of the whole dying cycle and I just want my natural colour back :frown:

sunscreen - have you got your natural hair colour back? and what did you do after it went flamey?

no stripping doesn't take you back to your normal colour!
basically they put bleach on to get rid of the colour, so some bits may go light some bits may stay dark!
my hairdresser stripped mine (the 2nd time) till it was orangy blonde then used a toner to make it less brassy - not my natural colour, she offered to dye it brown but i wanted it blonde to dye it pink again....

lol my natural hair colour... mmm havent seen that since I was 11... I'm 20 now! when it went flamey I cried, and just tied it up for 3 weeks till the next appointment.

basically if you wanna get it natural your best bet is to get it stripped... dye it as close to your normal brown as possible then grow it out!

GAH. It's SO frustrating!! I don't want to go orange at any point :frown:

am just waiting until a bit of rootage comes through so i can actually see what my natural colour is (like you, havent seen it for a lonnnnnnnnng time) and see what the hairdresser says. ARGH.

Thanks for all your help!

Just to let you know if it costs the same as a colour at Toni + Guy it would cost about £80 despite that fact that they would probably do a very good job.

It costs about £30 for my spaniel to get it done if that helps at all.

Hehheh.

I had to have myn stripped when I made a mess of dying it myself, it turned out black and made me look dead. If I remember correctly once was enough to get it back to a somewhat more normal shade, however I think it can take more depending on how much dye is on the hair and how well your hair responds etc etc. I had myn dyed a light brown after because it looked a bit odd (The ends were darker as their more porous and so had more dye left on). It was perfectably passable but it did have a slight gingerish tinge to it so I asked them to dye it for me.

Haha - that made me laugh! My spaniel has that done too and it takes hours and hours, though she's a ginger cocker so she looks gorgeous when it's done, exactly like Lady from Lady and the Tramp.

Note to others: very different type of stripping - doggy fur stripping is pulling out excess fluffy hairs. Human hair stripping is taking all the colour out using dye/bleach... :p:
