Do you prefer a same sex doctor for more intimate procedures?

Just interested what the general opinion is...im a girl and tbh i dont think i would prefer a female doctor in all cases. A lot of women doctors make me feel uncomfortable- as if theyre judging me or something- i guess i feel they still have an element of female bitchiness lol. A nice male doc would be much more preferable. Though ive a great female gp. I have diabetes, so i do see quite a lot of medics, especially since in Ireland you see a lot of interns in clinics for long term conditions

Thoughts anyone?

I get what you mean about the women and ideally I'd rather just have a robot or something! But I'm way too self conscious for a man to see those bits of me so I'd have to have a woman!! (I'm a girl btw :p:)

I had an, er, intimate check-up type thing done by a male doctor, when I was younger, I was probably only about 9 or something but I felt SO terrible and ashamed, it was awful.

Ideally, for invasive or otherwise 'intimate' procedures, I'd prefer a non-sex doctor.

in hospital i've seen male consultants, mainly cause there are very few female surgeons about!! i think i'd rather go see a male doctor sooner, than wait for a female one (though when i go to the GP for sensitive issues i ask for a female one, but wouldn't turn down the male ones if i didn't have an option)

in my experience, I have had two female GPs and to be honest, i disliked both..they were both disorganised and made me feel like they just wanted me out asap.

Yeah ditto, that's what I was getting at with the robot plan

what we need to do is convince all our female friends going to medical school that ACTUALLY they want to be gynos

It would need to be a woman. I just hate the idea of a male doctor for anything, never mind 'more intimate procedures', but generally, I don't do doctors.

my mum took me to a male doctor when I started developing breasts haha I was only 9 at the time but I hated having a man looking at me and touching me grr  not that he did anything unprofessional, it was all fine it was just the fact that it was a man!

so yeah my answer is I do prefer if I have a woman doctor lol

robots would be better still.... ok its late im going to bed, such thoughts are just insane...
I'm female and I would definitely prefer a female doctor. Once I was in the clinic waiting for a checkup and I overhead a conversation between two chav girls being like "I don't wanna woman doctor checkin' me - don't want no lezzer checkin' me out, innit" - that cracked me up

I'm male and don't think I'd really mind.

I thought I'd be bothered by having a male consultant looking at my, ahem, 'bits', but I'd had so many people having a look that one more didn't matter after that. :frown:

Definately a female doctor. It was hard enough for me to tell a male doctor I can't sleep

The thing is though, by the time a consultant or GP has reached that level theyve performed so many examinations that it becomes completely routine for them and they think nothing of it. Obviously if you went in with a urology/gynaecology problem and a group of 1st year medical students were let loose on you you'd have a reason to be uncomfortable

Hah. Sounds like my experience. I had the consultant, a nurse, and a medical student all peering in at one point
Then when it came to surgery, the most embarrassing thing was a reeeeeeeeeally HOT student doctor asking me to sign this consent form. I looked at it, and it was basically allowing him to 'feel inside' while I was under anaesthetic.

I'd rather have a woman playing with my nads than a man!
