Success for decades and then one season you do bad and you want out? I'm no MUFC fan but you don't deserve to be one imo.

Buy yeah support a local team in your area and/or one that you mutually like, hope that helps.

Definitely maaan! Can't wait! I might miss a bit ( :s-smilie:) but see if we win....:0!!
Good Man. Respect to you for this. I'll run through my arguments...

Most football fans will tell you, it is an unwritten rule, that you can't change team. But why is that? What is the logical justification as to why you can't? Nobody has yet explained to me why one can change husband/wife, job, house, music, supermarket, political party, friends...but not football team? The poster who compared a football team to a political party had it right. Things might be going wrong...that's ok, but you need to believe the direction the team is going in, you need to believe things are going to get better. It's your democratic right to change team if you wish.

I've known several people do it. First season will be tough, you'll be criticised a lot, but after that people accept it and get on with their own lives. I've known somebody switch from Aston Villa to Birmingham City...literally arch rivals, and by season 2/3 he was accepted.

Local...doesn't matter. The best teams have fans from all over the world. Doesn't matter where you are from, again, footballs about choice, it's not forced Communism as some of these left wing students on here think. Smaller club fans will say 'We support our local team'...well done, do you want a medal? People searching for the moral high-ground that says 'I'm local, I've never changed'. What's the gain? What do you have to show for it? If I live in Grimsby, why would I support Grimsby when I can get a better product in London or in the Blue half of Manchester?

Another thing, this nonsense about 'teams go in cycles'. Total bollucks. No decline is natural. The decline at Liverpool happened because one bad decision led to another, it wasn't sent from the Gods. In theory a team can stay at the top forever, as long as the right decisions are being made. Imagine in another area of life saying 'Well done, you've had 10 years at a good job, you've travelled the world, now you've got to accept McDonalds'. It's just bizarre.

I'm a Manchester United fan. I live two hours away (although I'm on a one year university placement in Australia at the moment...picked a good season for it!). I've supported them for 17 years, first shirt when I was 7, bedroom decorated in the colours when I was 10, first game at 14, the club was my life. But I've truly hated every single minute of this season. It's not just the results, its the direction, the decisions being made, the dinosaurs in the boardroom, I just hate it so much, I can't take it. I need a team thats winning, it suits my personality....but it's difficult to make the move overnight. Changing football team is a gradual thing you'll find. If you are to do it, it will take at least 12-18 months. I'll be reviewing my position this time next season, if things aren't better, and if circumstances in my personal life have changed (i.e. hoping for a grad job in London), I'll be moving to a London club, I just hate David Moyes' guts.

Good luck!

One more point. If Chelsea or City or Arsenal declined they'd lose hundreds of thousands of fans, same with Barcelona or Real Madrid. That's how the big clubs work.

I cant do it anymore...the banter...the poor results anf potential drubbings...its too much for my mind to take along with my mum and dad seperating at such a crucial time near my exams.I wont fault my circumstances with poor grades.I know its down to me but MUFC is really depressing me and I really despise the team ive supported for 4-5 years of my16 year old life(majorly due to my best friends influence and comparissons between me and rio ferdinand).

I havent been a really loyal supporter and have said i support a number of clubs in the prem.Frankly im disgusted by that. Therefore I need to leave MUFC and support a team in a better postion, which for some reason makes me happier which leads to confidence.Any ideas who i should support?
Any tips for me to not get distracted by football my gcses in may.
Serious

Come support LFC, we're always glad to take MUFC rejects on board.

United fans have no sympathy from me. You've had half a season of strife and you can't deal with it. Grow up.

Such BS.

If it's that easy for you to switch then, quite simply, you were never that big of a fan to begin with.

When you support a team you want to see them succeed. And when they are doing badly, your desire to see them do well should only grow. That's all part of the love affair that a real fan has with the club they support.

The people in the boardroom are not my club, the manager is not my club, the players aren't even my club. Those people come and go - and when I see them failing the club that I support it's them that I want gone, not me. The fans, we're there for the long haul, because we follow the club - the badge, the name. And when we see our club succeed it'll be so much sweeter for us than you, who's simply along for the ride.

You are not a fan. You're just somebody that likes football.
Lol, never understood why some people are so desperate to support a team that wins trophies. Just so you can brag to your mates and others about how great "we" are?
I've seen a few people on here (and only on here might I add) make posts like this this season. If anybody who's lucky enough to support this club doesn't want to be here anymore they're more than welcome to do a running swan dive off the Mancunian Way, preferably at 4am on a Saturday when it can't interrupt my day.

Theres something special about this club, and to be honest if you feel able to leave because we're not successful then that success can never have meant as much to you as it should. You can chase the glory but unless you really feel and believe in the club and have that strong connection to it you can't fully appreciate what those trophies actually mean.
LOL

What a tit.
