Electronic and Computer Engineering - Brunel or Queen Mary?

Hey TSR

I've recently received unconditional offers from both Brunel and Queen Mary to study Computer Systems Engineering (BEng), however I'm not 100% sure on which to pick at the moment.

I've visited both universities on their open days but felt that Brunel University seemed a bit bare in it's facilities whereas Queen Mary seemed fully stocked. This seems pretty controversial as everyone I talk to tells me that Brunel is an Engineering specialised university and puts a large amount of their funds into that area whereas Queen Mary is much less focused on that.

On all of the University guides I've been viewing, the two universities seem practically neck and neck in terms of ratings for the course however, in terms of overall uni rating, Queen Mary seems to absolutely trump Brunel. On top of that, I'm told it's got a global prestige from it's status as one of the UoL that gives it's alumni an edge in employment.

My parents seem pretty keen on me going to Brunel however, with them telling me that I'll have a far better chance of getting a job at the end due to their specialised nature and their good career's centre.

So my question goes out to anyone who studies at either of these universities or knows them to some extent, which would you recommend I take up for this subject? Did I simply witness Brunel on a bad day and QM on a good? Which one do you think is better in this subject field?

As you probably know the decisions is yours. If I was you I would check the profiles of staff who work there. Are they involved in research or not.

Find out which company they work with for student placements and which company you would have liked to work for !

search for what type of projects people have worked in their final year : it might give you more insight into which university pushes their students to come up with more innovative ideas rather than some mediocre project in order to pass. You want something challenging and difficult otherwise you will get bored.
Remember it is only once that you are out there in the job market that you will find out about your real potential ( how you apply your knowledge). So having a 1st class and not knowing how to use it is a waste.

I personally think that they are both good universities !
