I'm currently on disability benefits and unable to do full- or even part-time work, but I'd like to keep my hand in with languages, as well as having something to pass the time, and someone suggested I see if there's any unpaid projects I could have a stab at helping with. Once upon a time I was fairly fluent in Spanish, and I've done a degree in Russian as well as having some EFL experience, so while I wouldn't say I'm good enough to charge money for translations I think I could still make myself useful.

So if anybody can think of any organisations or projects that could do with translators (*definitely* only into English, there's no way I'm up to translating into Spanish or Russian!) then that would be great. I enjoy literary translation the best, but would still be interested in any other fields too.

Hey,

Sorry - I have finally figured how to log in!

So the sources would be in Russian, the project is focusing on the Post-Soviet Russian skinhead movement.

I can offer.... (hmmm) - your name as the key translator in the most prestigious journal that will accept the thesis........ and maybe a few pints or a few Oxford Union talks or something (they can be pretty good!)? I am not sure if any of that in an incentive but let me know!

The bulk of my work will be from now(ish) for around 4-5 weeks, any help you are able to offer in that time in terms of the translation of documents (PDF's + Word documents in all likelihood) would be hugely appreciated.

I am also trying to find any software that might help in the translation but am currently failing miserably....

In any case, let me know your thoughts,

Cheers,

Peter P
