Struggling to Find Accommodation for Bournemouth J.P.Morgan Internship

I'm wondering whether anyone can give me some advice.

I am working for J.P.Morgan in Bournemouth over the summer as an intern and I'm struggling to find any accommodation. I've rung up many letting agencies and they've all said their properties can be let for 6 months minimum. I can't find anywhere that will let me stay for only 3 months.

Anyone been in/is in the same position? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you tried contacting Bournemouth Uni and seeing if you can stay in student halls over the summer? Most unis let out student rooms in halls at a reduced price over the summer.

I have but they told me they only let it out from 1st July and I need to move to Bournemouth around a week before that so I'm seeing if there are any other options :/

That must be really frustrating!

If you haven't already looked, maybe see if you can find something on Airbnb? ( https://www.airbnb.co.uk )

Hope you sort something out

Hotel/B&B for a week. Or holiday cottage. Not exactly rocket science.

Took me all of 10 seconds.

How rude.

I know I can stay in a B&B for a week but that would involve me eating out every night because I'd have no where to make food = very expensive.

And have you seen the prices of holiday cottages? I'm glad you're made of money but I'm certainly not :frown:

300 for a week doesn't exactly seem excessive. Pretty sure your internship is paying you. Welcome to the real world, where people actually have living expenses!

And perhaps rude, but certainly helpful

Hi Zoek, I am pretty much in the same position as you. I have been successful in securing in 10-week summer internship at JPM, Bournemouth. I too am looking for accommodation between June-Aug. I do not have a lot of money and nor have my parents due to my fathers recent redundancy. I only have budget of about £500 p/m.

Any ideas? Anyone?
The smart arse in me would tell you to contact HR. you are not the first and wont be the last person that faces this issue. They would know what to advise you

Thanks but not really an option. I wish to do my grad scheme there the following year. If I can't even find my own accommodation then what does that say about me as a future leader.

True, but not asking for help could say the below too:

-It would say you're not a team player
-You dont ask for help when you're not knowledgeable and therefore your uninformed actions could be of detriment to a team
-You will struggle to signal to others when you do not have capacity for extra tasks assigned to you
-you're not vocal enough in a team environment
-bad at problem solving and a lack of creativity

and the list goes on.

Prince, that would only be true if I hadn't consulted this forum. You may have missed that I am openly and proactively seeking help and support. Choosing where to ask and knowing where not to is a commendable attribute you will do well to replicate. Not judging people you know nothing about is my second to last life skill for you. Not to talk crap and quote cliches is my final lesson for you.

Prince, you weren't rejected by JMP were you? Oh my god, you were!

Christ.

Ring them, tell them what you plan to do e.g. B&B for a week followed by uni accomodation. Then ask them if they have any better alternatives that they could suggest and stress that money is a genuine issue for you.

If you really think that doing something such as this would have negative implications on your application for a graduate scheme the following year then you clearly do not intend on impressing during your internship.

My lesson for you is to get acquainted with banter. It will get you far in life.

Take care

Ps. I have topped JPM.

I would agree with Samba and you don't have to eat out every night. Even if you do you can go to places like Wetherspoons and get a fairly decent meal for a fiver.

Not even that, he could get eat in/ takeaways from the canteen and claim expenses back. Considering he will have bfast and lunch there, he is fine for cooked food

My god ... look I posted a simple question on this forum and I then made a tongue in cheek remark about fearing HR. Of course I will contact JPM if I struggle to find decent accomodation. I just thought somebody who had been through the same experience will post some meaningful suggestions, best areas to live on a tight budget etc.
