A moment is a tendency of a force to rotate an object around an axis. If normal forces are push and pull, a moment can be thought of as a twist.

In simple terms, it can be considered as a turning force on an object.

how do you figure it out

The simple equation for moments is M=F×dM=F \times d where F is the force applied and d is the perpendicular distance from the pivot. The SI unit is Newton meters.

By this I assume you mean how to work out the moment of a force? The equation is:

Force (acting on the object) x perpendicular distance from the pivot to the point where the force is acting

That was English.

What exactly is it in that sentence you don't understand?

Take a look at the link in my post. It probably got there after you posted.

Perpendicular means at right angles, so you only take the distance at right angles to the direction of the force.

Yes, but rearranging equations is an essential skill to have.

Moment
Force x distance

That's the best triangle I can do

You're hardly the average secondary school student though

You probably know more maths (and are better at it) than most people who have sat A Level maths.
