Apprenticeships Vs Graduate's in Construction Management

Now coming up to the end of my first year of a two year BTEC Lvl 3 in Construction & BE and looking to gain access to a career in Construction/Project Management. Was wondering if anyone had any views on what would be the best route into this field...
At the moment my two options are to either apply to uni (preferably Loughborough - Construction Engineering Management) to start in 2015 or to go down the work experience/apprenticeship route and work my way up that way?
Any thoughts, recommendations or alternative suggestions greatly appreciated. Jim
